By Graham "GSM" Matthews Mojo Rawley def. Riddick Moss I don't know if we have yet to be introduced to Moss on NXT TV, but he definitely has an impressive physique. He came out as an unknown, but he did his best to elicit genuine heat from the crowd. Nothing he did in this match stood out to me, but I assume he's just starting out. As for Rawley, he entered to a mixed reaction, but he had the crowd in the palm of his hand by the time the match ended. Fans chanted along with Rawley at Ross, "He ain't hyped!" before one fan loudly exclaimed, "Who is he?" Funny. Rawley won with something other than his normal finisher, which is awful so I'm glad he switched it up. I don't know how far he'll go in NXT without Zack Ryder, but he did well for himself here. NFL star Rob Gronkowski was also in the audience. I didn't recognize him at first from afar but someone informed me after the show it was him. Bayley and Carmella def. Dana Brooke and Peyton Royce Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I'm in an absolute love with Bayley. Granted, I was in attendance when she won the NXT Women's Championship in Brooklyn last August, but seeing her again in Lowell was awesome. And that entrance is simply sensational. The match was mostly a showcase for the babyfaces, but a fun one and the crowd ate it up. Bayley won with the Belly to Bayley. Was this Brooke's first match back since suffering the injury? I don't think so, but we haven't seen her in action on TV at all in 2016. Royce didn't look out of place, either. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Big Show def. The Social Outcasts in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match Ah, who doesn't love Big Show burying younger talent? Calm down, those aren't my actual thoughts on this match, I was simply channeling my inner IWC. The Social Outcasts are meant to be enhancement talent, no matter how entertaining they are, so if there was anyone Big Show should squash in a matter of minutes, it was them. The bout was basically a showcase for Show, though I was slightly disappointed The Social Outcasts weren't given as much creative freedom to do what they wanted as they usually are. Perhaps Adam Rose's recent suspension had something to do with that? United States Champion Kalisto def. Tyler Breeze (Non-title) A friend of mine pitched to me a month or so the idea of Breeze targeting Kalisto because he hides behind a mask and Breeze would want to represent the United States the right way as its champion. That's absolutely brilliant! Which is why WWE would never do anything remotely like it. At the very least, their matches are always enjoyable and this encounter was no exception. I like how Kalisto is starting to get creative by hitting Salida del Sol seemingly out of nowhere as he did here. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Intercontinental Champion The Miz and Maryse Hosted 'Miz TV' with AJ Styles Yeah, because after two talking segments on Raw, I'm sure fans were dying to see another edition of 'Miz TV' on SmackDown. They should have advertised the tag team main event in addition to this segment because although it ultimately proved to be worthwhile, I don't think it was enough of an incentive for fans to tune in. That aside, Miz was once again a fun foil to Styles and I really liked how they brought up and discussed Styles' history with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson from Japan. Miz actually asked the hard-hitting questions in regards to whether he and the former Bullet Club members are aligned, but as expected, we weren't given any answers. Furthermore, this segment set up their match for later in the night nicely. Ryback def. United States Champion Kalisto (Non-title) In storyline, Ryback had a reason to ask for a rematch after Kalisto used the exposed turnbuckle in their WrestleMania match, but why did it take him this long? In fact, this was Ryback's first non-Main Event or WWE Superstars appearance since 'Mania, and that was three weeks ago! The match was pretty decent, but the crowd sat on their hands for it and it's hard to blame them. Ryback hasn't been on TV in weeks and Kalisto hasn't had anything going for him, so basically, neither of them have much (if any) momentum right now. The only good thing about this bout was its fantastic finish. Really cool reversal from the Salida del Sol into the Shell Shocked. |
