By Graham "GSM" Matthews Knockouts Champion Taryn Terrell def. Gail Kim in a Six Sides of Steel Cage Match I loved each of the encounters these two had in 2013 and 2014. This match? Not so much. The roles being reversed this time around put a fresh spin on it, but what hindered my enjoyment of the bout more than anything else was the excessive interference from The Dollhouse on the outside. I guess I should have seen that coming, but nothing bothers me more in Steel Cage match because that's what the match is designed to do: keep others out, not invite them in! Thus, it wasn't the match it should have been, but not terribly by any means. Terrell's attack on Kim afterward put extra heat on her and it looks like Awesome Kong will be her next program over the title. James Storm Made an Exclusive Offer to Mickie James I'm not sure what to think about this storyline so far. It's obvious that Storm is manipulating Mickie, but I don't think the fans at the Impact Zone see that (i.e. they seem to be cheering Storm more often than not). It also struck me after Storm informed Mickie of all the music business meetings he set up for her that this strongly resembles the storyline with Jimmy Uso, Naomi and The Miz from only a few months ago. I don't think it's a case of TNA ripping off WWE as much as it is TNA getting lazy with a rehashed angle.

David Otunga Granted JTG's Old Ironclad Contract, Will Remain with WWE Until 2050 (Satire)5/29/2015 By Graham "GSM" Matthews SATIRE -- Last June, the wrestling world was shaken to its very core when JTG's (real name Jayson Paul) near eight year tenure with World Wrestling Entertainment came to an end. He was released along with Yoshi Tatsu, Curt Hawkins, Aksana and a bunch of others who fans were unaware were still on the roster. For a long while, it was rumored that he was signed to a deal that stated he couldn't be released until someone more deserving (or in this case, a more useless wrestler) of the contract came along. It was confirmed by a source that wished to remained nameless that this was true, and that his heir to the throne was none other than David Otunga. JTG, for the many years he was in WWE for, was notorious for being a glorified waste of space on the roster. He remained hidden, and due to that, he survived countless cuts when others such as Drew McIntyre, Evan Bourne and Brodus Clay were fired instead. Having not competed on WWE programming for as long as R-Truth has been irrelevant, his job was secure. That was, however, until he decided to show up at catering one day, was spotted by one of the Superstars, and made the mistake of picking up his phone the following day when he was called of his release. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Dean Ambrose Addressed WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins I was glad Ambrose answered the million dollar question of how he escaped jail during Raw on Monday and got back in time for the end of the show. Most of it wasn't realistic, sure, but I appreciated the effort, nevertheless. It was also his last chance (on the mic, anyway) to hype the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at Elimination Chamber and I thought he did so effectively. In a perfect world, I would have had him say of all of this in a backstage interview setting so we could kick off the show with in-ring action, but at least The Authority didn't interrupt. And is it just me or all this buddy-buddy talk from Ambrose about Roman Reigns strongly foreshadowing a feud between them sometime soon? The Lucha Dragons def. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd in a Lumberjack Match These were the two best teams in the Elimination Chamber to face off for a quality match, but I would have saved it for later down the line. Not only that, but both teams are babyfaces, so the crowd didn't have much of an incentive to cheer for one team over the other (they were relatively quiet throughout the bout, anyway). Still, I enjoyed it for what it was and the stuff that both of these teams can pull off is amazing. The Lumberjack stipulation was a total waste, but if they allow Kidd and Cesaro and the Dragons to go all out in a future encounter, they could without a doubt tear the house down. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Johnny Mundo def. Aerostar You wouldn't be able to tell that Mundo turned heel based off his entrance since it was essentially the same, but it was the little things he did in the ring such as the treating as well as the effective storytelling from the commentators that put him over in his new role. Meanwhile, Aerostar can always be counted on for a quality matchup and there's no way he could have gone wrong with Mundo as his opponent. It was a nice opener and a good win for Mundo as he kicks off his run as a heel. Vampiro Interviewed Sexy Star I don't thought I'd say it, but Vampiro is an excellent interviewer. His interviewing style is vastly different from that of Michael Cole's or anyone else's in wrestling today because he gets straight to the hard-hitting questions and adds his own flavor to it. Sexy Star basically furthered her feud with Pentagon Jr. and hyped their upcoming match for next week. It also established why she was targeting Pentagon to begin with, giving viewers a reason to care about their upcoming encounter as a result. |
