By RJ Marceau Back in November when I found out that my favorite WWE wrestler Seth Rollins had torn his ACL and MCL I was devastated. I realized that Monday Night Raw wouldn’t be the same for the next 7-9 months. However I told Graham that Seth Rollins would be back before I graduated. I was a day off but hey I had the confidence that he would be back early. When Rey Mysterio was diminishing I decided that it was time for me to find a new favorite wrestler. I decided to start watching NXT and Seth Rollins became my guy. I have been live for his Money in the Bank victory, when he won the United States Championship at SummerSlam and met him at SummerSlam Axxess last year. These were all great moments but being there for his return topped all of those moments. He returned in six months from an ACL, MCL and medial meniscus tear and I could only imagine the hard work he dedicated to get back in the ring. Luckily for us next week they are airing a WWE 24 Special about his recovery, which should be a great special.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Rockstar Spud and Tyrus Confronted Matt Hardy I'm digging Hardy's new psychotic look and his ability to reinvent himself at this stage of his career, though I'm not sure what to make of the accent he has now. It goes along with his altered image, but we all know he doesn't actually talk like that, so it was a bit of a distraction. Maybe it will grow on me over time. I'm also glad his alliance with Spud and Tyrus wasn't forgotten about and that loose end was tied up with the Handicap Ladder match on this show. But who were those shadow Willows we saw last week? I came away from this segment slightly surprised Hardy didn't acknowledge them at all. Will their identities ever be revealed? Ethan Carter III def. Matt Hardy by Disqualification These two feuded with each other for almost eight months, so obviously, they work well together and have very good chemistry. It was weird for this to be a standard singles match after EC3 had to go through Six Sides of Steel and Last Man Standing matches in recent weeks, but I don't know what type of match they would have had anyway since they fought in basically every gimmick match during their rivalry. I liked the loophole with Mike Bennett saying EC3 needed to beat Hardy by pinfall or submission yet he was the reason the match ended by disqualification. It was also a wise way of protecting Hardy. With Slammiversary only a few weeks away, I'm sure EC3 will find another way of getting his rematch with Bennett at the event. By Graham "GSM" Matthews WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day def. The Social Outcasts (Non-title) This has been a phenomenal seven days in WWE on the whole, but I think this segment and subsequent match were the best things I've seen all week. New Day were extra hilarious here with their entertaining antics and their chemistry with The Social Outcasts is off the charts. It's a shame The Social Outcasts aren't more than glorified losers because otherwise that would be a fun feud going into Money in the Bank. I loved how they made the match more meaningful by saying Xavier Woods would get his stolen luggage back if New Day won. It was so silly that it worked wonderfully. The build to Woods hitting Big E's belly-to-belly suplex as well as the Big Ending was great and a fantastic finish to the match. Awesome stuff all around. Paige def. Summer Rae Coming off that phenomenal first 20 minutes of the show, Paige and Summer were stuck in a tough position. As a result, their match was just kind of there. Paige still has her fair share of fans, but we have no reason to invest in her. Meanwhile, it's been the same story with Summer for ages: she's a talented hand that has been largely wasted for years. This match wasn't terrible, but I honestly couldn't have cared less about it. By Graham "GSM" Matthews WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns Confronted Seth Rollins Just we all expected, Rollins received a hero's homecoming when he made his entrance, and the reaction gave me chills. Holy shit. He started off his promo acting like a babyface, but he managed to turn the crowd (or at least a portion of the crowd) against him by talking about how he burned every single piece of fan mail that was sent to him while he was injured. Brilliant. I still think a double turn with him and Reigns is the right direction to take, but it makes sense to stick with him as a heel for now because that's what he was the last time we saw him. I'm glad they wasted no time in announcing the main event for the Money in the Bank pay-per-view and the Money in the Bank qualifying matches that would take place over the course of the night. Sami Zayn def. Sheamus in a Money in the Bank Qualifying Match Sheamus hasn't meant anything in ages, but as a former multi-time world champion and Mr. Money in the Bank, there was a chance he could have won here, especially given Zayn rarely wins when it matters most (which works for his character). They contested a good match and I liked the dynamic they had. I was happy Zayn won clean and he should be an excellent addition to the Money in the Bank Ladder match. As for Sheamus, he goes from winning it one year to not even being able to qualify for it the next. I can't say I'm surprised, but the commentators acknowledged that as well, so they're incorporating that frustration into his character. Him losing to a "New Era" wrestler such as Zayn sets up his apparent feud with Apollo Crews perfectly. |
