Daniel Bryan nearly forces Ryback to submit.
By Graham "GSM" Matthews Daniel Bryan and WWE Champion John Cena Signed Their SummerSlam Contract After acting as a babyface last week, Raw General Manager Brad Maddox was back to portraying a heel this week, which was strange. Nonetheless, everyone played their roles well here. Cena put over Bryan in a huge way by saying that he earned and deserved an opportunity to contend for the WWE Championship. Bryan was good on the mic as well while Maddox's announcement of the main event gave the viewers something to look forward to for the rest of the night. World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio def. Sheamus (Non-title) After their lackluster feud last summer, I was not excited for this match whatsoever going into it. However, it ended up being very well wrestled and better than originally expected. Del Rio took advantage of Sheamus' injury and picked up the clean victory, which was a pleasant surprise. The fact he hooked The Celtic Warrior's injured leg was a nice touch. Del Rio has been flourishing since turning heel last month and this was another big win under his belt (figuratively and literally).

Daniel Bryan forces Wade Barrett to submit.
By Graham "GSM" Matthews Vickie Guerrero Was Rehired as SmackDown General Manager While there wasn't anything necessarily wrong with the segment, it didn't do much for this viewer. Everyone played their roles well, but I couldn't care less about the drama surrounding the SmackDown General Manager position. It's good to see Booker T back, but what will he do now that he's no longer in charge of the blue brand? Vickie Guerrero has been General Manager countless times in the past, so putting her back in this position is simply obnoxious and has grown tremendously tiresome by this point. Dolph Ziggler def. Jack Swagger These two have history dating back to their clash over the World Heavyweight Championship earlier this year, so I'm glad the commentators touched on that. The match was good for what it was, but I'm surprised it wasn't given more time. These two have nice chemistry with each other, so I would have liked to see them go out all here. Nonetheless, Ziggler's post-match promo regarding his breakup with AJ Lee was short and sweet.
Chris Sabin, your new TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
By Graham "GSM" Matthews The Main Event Mafia Interrupted TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bully Ray The show started off on a high note with an excellent promo from Bully Ray. He's always awesome on the mic, but this promo helped make the main event feel even more important than it already did. Chris Sabin's video package was also very well produced and gave the match a big fight feel. The Main Event Mafia's promo was good and everyone played their roles well. Austin Aries def. Bobby Roode to Earn 7 Points in the Bound For Glory Series Roode and Aries had one of the best matches in TNA history at last year's Destination X event. I simply love the fact a rematch was held at this year's installment and the match quality was just as good. Neither guy may be a full-fledged face, but the crowd was hot for both competitors. They put forth a strong effort in this bout and it certainly paid off. It looks like they're telling a story with Roode's losses in the BFG Series, so I liked how that was furthered following his loss when he destroyed everything in sight at ringside.
Christian secures Fandango in a headlock.
By Graham "GSM" Matthews Christian def. Fandango While it may not have been a great match, it was certainly a good one. They work well together and it felt fresh, too, since they had yet to clash in singles competition until now. I'm fine with Fandango losing given the fact he had a nice showing against Christian and lost via a roll-up. The match needed more time to stand out more and never felt like it got out of first gear. Regardless, this was a solid start to the show. Layla and Natalya def. Alicia Fox and Aksana After the excellent matches Kaitlyn and AJ Lee recently had on pay-per-view, this Divas tag team match certainly paled in comparison. It wasn't tremendously terrible, but it was rather dull and didn't seem to serve much of a purpose. The bout lasted five minutes, which isn't good or bad, but it was definitely a forgettable contest to say the least. There's AJ and Kaitlyn, and then rest of the Divas division feels like complete filler. |
