By Graham "GSM" Matthews United States Champion John Cena Interrupted The Authority For those who missed it earlier in the day, it was already made official that SummerSlam would be four hours this year, so Triple H's announcement wasn't anything new. Still, that's huge, and speaking as someone who will be there live, the weekend definitely has that WrestleMania feel to it now. As for the rest of the segment, they pushed the "first time ever" talk a bit more than they should have, but I appreciated them announcing so many matches for the rest of the show, including a championship main event. I'm typically not a fan of The Authority opening the night, but this was a better segment than expected given what was accomplished. Big Show def. Dean Ambrose by Count-out It's hard to get excited over a Big Show match in 2015, and while this match didn't have me jumping out of my seat, I liked how it was something we hadn't seen before (translation: it wasn't Show vs. Roman Reigns for the millionth time). They contested a nice match with the traditional "David vs. Goliath" dynamic that worked well for them. At first, I groaned over Show winning, but then I realized he's the one in the Intercontinental Championship chase while Ambrose isn't involved in anything major right now other than the angle with The Wyatt Family.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews #AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews, answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week’s edition touches upon a variety of topics including:
By Graham "GSM" Matthews R-Truth def. Heath Slater It seems when Truth isn't facing Bo Dallas, his opponent is Slater, another guy who I couldn't care less about. No knock on Slater as I've praised his selling ability before, but it helps when he's in there with someone who can showcase their skills and can use the win. It's well-documented that I'm no fan of Truth and thus his matches bore me to tears, but on the bright side, this bout didn't last too long and his "feud" with King Barrett finally appears to be done with, so there is that. Neville def. Bo Dallas Neville's slowly becoming a regular on Superstars, which frightens me. He still has his feud with Stardust going (or at least on SmackDown), but it feels like filler before Stardust presumably moves on to Stephen Amell/The Arrow in time for SummerSlam. These two have always worked well together and I appreciated how Dallas was on offensive for most of it so it wasn't such a one-sided squash. It wasn't the best match they've ever had, but at the very least it was competent. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Sheamus def. Dean Ambrose These two have had a few matches against each other in the past and almost all of them to my memory have been good to great, so I'd love to see them in an actual program at some point. They told a solid story throughout the bout with Ambrose selling his arm injury, though it was interference from The Wyatt Family that ultimately cost him the win and helping them get their heat back from Raw in the process. It's a shame Sheamus has very little going for him as Mr. Money in the Bank right now. They need to be more consistent with his wins and hopefully this was the start of that. Neville def. Adam Rose I figured Neville as well as Stardust being left off Raw this week meant their matches last week were for nothing, but it looks like they well be feuding after all. Thus, that begs the question: why the hell weren't they mentioned on Raw at all?! I don't mind the feud because the matches have the potential to be enjoyable, but both guys need wins right now. There was also a mention of Neville's "Red Arrow" during Stardust's promo, so perhaps this is filler before Stardust faces Stephen Amell from "The Arrow" at SummerSlam. As for this match, Rose was squashed. What else is new? |
