By Graham "GSM" Matthews Bram def. Abyss in a Stairway to Janice Match Similar to their Monster's Ball match, this was a garbage match with several sweet spots and both guys putting forth a strong effort. They captured the crowd's attention and both Bram and Abyss took brutal beatings. I like the move to have Bram going over for a second time because it gives him credibility as a singles competitor. How long before Abyss gets his win back? Personally, I have no desire to see this feud continue. I wasn't a fan of this match concept, but they made the most of it. It's been four years since "Janice" was first introduced to TNA TV. How it's still around today is a mystery to me. Ethan Carter III Attacked Rhyno Believe it or not, EC3's promos have become one of the highlights of TNA programming in recent weeks. This wasn't his strongest promo to date, but he's still a work in progress and I'm glad to see him improving at a rapid pace. It made sense from a storyline standpoint for EC3 to blame Rhyno for Dixie Carter going through a table since he was the one pinned in that multi-man tag team match two weeks ago, but the attack on Rhyno was weak. Rhyno is much bigger physically than EC3, so he should have been able to dispose of him with ease instead of getting his ass handed to him. I'm fine with Rhyno as a babyface, but it seems like a step down for EC3 who has feuded with Sting, Kurt Angle and Bully Ray since the start of the year.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews United States Champion Sheamus def. Curtis Axel (Non-title) Axel doesn't pose much of a threat to Sheamus as a singles competitor, but they still worked a well wrestled match. Both of their characters bore me to tears, but there's no questioning whether they can go in the ring and have a good outing. Cesaro on commentary was a nice touch and it appears they're going back to the Sheamus vs. Cesaro feud. Yes, we've seen it before, but is either guy doing anything else right now? Maybe Cesaro will be the one to finally take the United States title off The Celtic Warrior. Nikki Bella def. Emma Nikki still received a positive reaction upon her entrance, so perhaps she should change her theme song and leave her current one to Brie Bella. Their wasn't much to the match, but Emma's involvement made it passable. Nikki has come a long way in the ring over the last year or so, but she still needs the right opponent to work with and Emma was that person. Nikki didn't act heelish at all , so perhaps there is more to her alliance with The Authority than what meets the eye. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Nikki Bella Explained Her Actions Stephanie McMahon coming out to Daniel Bryan's entrance theme and doing the whole "YES!" shtick was a riot. She continues to be the best heel WWE has at the moment, and she's not even an active competitor! And then there's Nikki. Her promo was very paint-by-numbers and her delivery was deplorable. I know she's not the best on the mic, but that's what I was worried about when she turned heel at SummerSlam. Why can't Stephanie do all the talking for her? By the way, despite "pouting" after turning on her sister on sister, Nikki appeared to be a full-blown heel on his show. Brie Bella's terrible acting didn't help matters and I really hope that's not what the rest of this feud will consist of. Big Show and Mark Henry def. Luke Harper and Erick Rowan This was essentially the same match we saw on SmackDown a few days ago (what else is new?), but slightly better. Show and Henry sold well for the offense of Harper and Rowan, but the ending outcome was never in doubt. I realize they want to establish Show and Henry as a tag team, but why does it have to be at the expense of one of the best duos in WWE today? Show and Henry don't excite me as a tandem unless they're heel and The Wyatt Family shouldn't be beaten so consistently. By Thomas Brunt If the recent crowning of the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar is any indication, it can only mean one thing for WWE: Legitimacy. This doesn't seem to be the reaction from many fans, though who thought there wasn't enough wrestling action in the SummerSlam main-event. Sure, the match was a little slow, and wasn't anything like Brock's encounter with Punk at the previous SummerSlam event, but it was different. It seemed to me, a little more real. It seemed, at times more like an actual fight, not a wrestling match. Sometimes that's what we need. Sometimes we need something different. WWE realizes they need to be different. We've seen John Cena as champion plenty times before, but Brock Lesnar as champion is intriguing. Brock is intriguing, he's unpredictable. Lesnar's background in UFC makes him legitimate, because he proved he's not just your average wrestler. Brock, unlike most others brings that sense of reality to the ring. |
