By Graham "GSM" Matthews Antonio Cesaro def. William Regal The build-up to this match has been very well done and it helped make the match mean more in the end. Even the pre-match interviews from both competitors were a nice touch. They were given great time and definitely made the most of it. Cesaro and Regal have such awesome chemistry with each other in the ring that it made for an excellent matchup with a solid story behind it. Regal doing the job for Cesaro was logical since Cesaro is the future and Regal isn't (despite the fact I am a massive Regal fan), but the finish was fantastic in that Regal looked strong in defeat and Cesaro showed a tremendous amount of respect for him afterward. I don't think this was the start of a Cesaro babyface turn, although I would like to see it at point just to see how well it would work out. Overall Show Obviously, there isn't much to discuss given how a majority of the show was made up for video packages and only one match in the main event. However, that isn't to say that this show wasn't worth seeing, as I really enjoyed the various vignettes highlighting the best moments in NXT this year. The match between Regal and Cesaro was definitely worth going out of your way to see as well. This was a smart approach by NXT seeing how this episode aired on Christmas and not much storyline progression was done, but the "Best of NXT" format was fun and the special appearances by The Shield and The Wyatt Family were cool. It has been a fantastic year for NXT in 2013, so here's hoping 2014 will be equally amazing if not better.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews WWE Tag Team Champion Goldust def. Jack Swagger Both Goldust and Swagger are great workers, but their match wasn't much of a barn-burner. It was well wrestled and kept a consistent pace, but they never left first gear and immediately jumped to the finish at the end. Swagger dominated most of the contest before coming up short, so he looked good in defeat. It was also nice to see the match given a substantial amount of time despite it not being all that exciting. Natalya and The Bella Twins def. Divas Champion AJ Lee, Tamina Snuka and Aksana I was surprised by how good this match ended up being. Granted, it wasn't the best Divas match of the year, but everyone played their part well and there weren't as many botches as one would expect. I hate to see Tamina take yet another pin-fall, but it made sense since she was the one who knocked out Nikki's tooth on a recent episode of Raw. At least AJ wasn't pinned for the millionth time in tag team action, either. By Graham "GSM" Matthews The Authority Addressed the WWE Universe Being a major fan of the holidays, I didn't mind the Christmas theme of the opening segment (or the rest of this show for that matter). However, it was strange to see Kane act jolly as well as the rest of The Authority. I hope Kane bullying the Daniel Bryan fan at ringside doesn't mean he'll be feuding with Bryan at all. I think Kane did more talking here than he has since he was first repackaged. I didn't love the segment, but I didn't hate it, either. Total Divas def. True Divas in a 12-Diva Tag Team Match The first season of "Total Divas" ended last Sunday. Is it really necessary to keep the Total Divas vs. True Divas feud going? As expected, this match was horrendous, but I got a kick out of AJ Lee wearing a Grinch shirt on commentary. The one spot where all the Total Divas teamed up to swing around the ring and knock down their opponents made me cringe. By Carson Koschik Welp, 2013 is almost over and boy what a year has it been. Shitty groups have been disbanded, internet darlings have become world champions, and Natalya's cat died. But at the end of every year, wrestling bloggers and Bleacher Report writers race to their keyboards to all do one thing: make a dope ass list. That's right, it's time for me, another obscure wrestling writer who has little to no audience, to make his 2013 wrestler ranking. This list is not based on personal opinion, but win/loss record, PPV attendance, championships, and match quality. Sorry JTG. Also, none of the women wrestlers will have a place on this list. Why? It's kind of hard to compare the women wrestlers to the male wrestlers when the girls are only getting 1-2 matches a months and the guys (especially in WWE) are wrestling 2-3 times a week. Maybe I'll do a women power ranking, but that would be pointless. Spoiler: AJ Lee wins. Anyways, here's numbers 50 through 41 for the year of 2013. #50. Magnus Throughout 2013, Magnus has been primed to be TNA's number one guy. Whether it was joining the Main Event Mafia to take on the Aces and Eights, or umm, joining the Main Event Mafia to take on the Aces and Eights, Magnus has always seemed to be a part of TNA's top story lines. Well, it seems as TNA has finally pulled the trigger on Magnus being the top guy, as over the past month or so Magnus has turned heel and become Dixie Carter's hand picked TNA World Heavyweight Champion. While he may be on top of the TNA mountain, he was still somewhat inactive throughout the year and didn't really have any stand-out matches. That drops ol' Magnus to the bottom of the list. |
