Kobra Moon def. Bengala
I didn't realize until afterward that Kobra Moon was the same woman who we were introduced to last week via the vignette because her gear here was very different and quite frankly not as good. As for the match, it was decent, but like many others, I'm not all that into the intergender matches unless Ivelisse is involved. She is just a different type of competitor than the rest of the women. This match didn't bother me too much since she didn't take too much punishment, but it almost takes you out of the moment. Still, it was a passable debut for Moon and I'm intrigued to find out what her character is all about.
Jack Evans def. Drago
Evans impressed the hell out of me last season and I couldn't be happier that he's back for Season 2. His best attribute is that he flies around the ring like a maniac and you would think the crowd would be behind him as a result, but he does such an exceptional job of making them hate him that he is a wonderful heel. He had a fun foil in Drago, who has always been mega over in The Temple, so it was no surprise they had an enjoyable matchup. Evans scoring the victory was a pleasant surprise and hopefully this means he will receive slightly more focus this season.
Fenix def. Gift of the Gods Champion King Cuerno in a Last Luchador Standing Match (Non-title)
I didn't understand at first why the championship wasn't up for grabs (do they have championship rematch clauses in Lucha Undergrund?), but I guess they want to drag the feud out and do a rubber match between the two. And if this is the type of match we should expect from them every time they clash, then I'm extremely excited because this was flat out awesome. They didn't go over the top with the no disqualification stipulation and when they did incorporate weapons (i.e. during the finish), it felt meaningful. The crowd, as expected, ate up everything the two did and it made for an excellent main event.
We didn't get much storyline progression from last week, but it was cool to see the show focus on Fenix, King Cuerno and others a bit more than usual. Kobra Moon's debut was somewhat noteworthy, Evans vs. Drago was very well-wrestled and the main event was simply stellar. Plus, we received several video packages for Aerostar (who is finally getting some direction), the returning Texano, and the debut of Joey Ryan, all things I am looking forward to seeing unfold in the weeks ahead. I was hoping for a follow-up with Rey Mysterio, but what we got instead was pretty damn great.
