The month of April for Pro Wrestling, although mainly WWE who like usual, made its way around the news headlines as it is around this time they have their biggest show of the year, "WrestleMania." Let's not just pretend here that TNA is nonexistent as Dixie Carter and co. have also had observers of the promotion talking, as well.
Here I will recap what we have learned in the month of April.
WWE Likes Their Attendance Figures
With the grandest stage of them all taking place at AT&T Stadium, one of the largest venues in the entire world, you knew something record breaking was going to take place on Sunday, April 3rd. Indeed, something record breaking did happen: WrestleMania 32 set the new all time attendance record, which WWE announced to be 101,763 but knowing WWE and trusting other sources more the actual attendance is said to be 93,370 (according to the Pro Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer). This sort of makes you wonder because even at the latter record it would still be broken, as although they want you to believe that WrestleMania 3 had 93,173 this too has been discredited by some, as closer to 78,000.
WWE Wants You to Forget About Luke Gallows' Past
It is no secret WWE has a history of hiding things, specifically some of the past from the fans. Before returning as part of the "Bullet Club" Gallows was known to most fans as Impostor Kane having feuded with the real Kane in '06. He would later be repackaged as "Festus" in '07, and perhaps most notably being aligned with CM Punk in the "Straight Edge Society" and of course he had runs as part of TNA's "Ace's and Eights" and just before coming back to WWE, he was with NJPW as part of the "Bullet Club" with (current) stablemate Karl Anderson.
Finally, Some Recognition
April usually tends to be a pretty newsworthy month for the WWE, but with the recent passing of one of the Attitude Era's trailblazers in legendary women's wrestler, Chyna it has made for an even more newsworthy month. They aired a video package on Monday night's Raw, which seems to have split reactions among fans who feel it was just put together and aired so they could say they did it, and that they didn't really mean it. Regardless of what you thought, it can't be denied Chyna was ignored by the company for so long, only to be mentioned once she passed.
Forget About Storyline Continuity
Despite losing to the Undertaker at WrestleMania, Shane McMahon has been kept on television as if the stipulation to the match ever existed in the first place. At first, while it didn't make sense, it made for good television on Raw but hasn't quite had the gold touch it did at first but hey, anything is better than the Authority, right?
Undertaker's Last Outing?
Word is that Taker was telling people backstage his match with Shane would be his last. He was scheduled to tour on the annual European tour, but ended up not doing so.
TNA in Turmoil
Ever since moving to POP, things have been tougher for TNA. Despite putting on an enjoyable product as of late, it has not been evident in the ratings. Here's hoping Dixie Carter can work some 2002 Jeff Jarrett company saving magic to keep the company around for a long time to come, and maybe even go back to being a threat to WWE as they were arguably at one time.
TakeOver Took Over
WWE NXT continues to put on impressive shows, be it live events or pay-per views the program in many fans' minds is the superior show. WWE NXT Takeover Dallas was a prime illustration, putting on undoubtedly one of the best WRESTLING shows of not just 2016, but all time. It was effortlessly the more delighted in show over WrestleMania 32.
Samoa Joe Shocks the Wrestling World
Samoa Joe unexpectedly became NXT Champion, April 21 defeating Fin Balor at a live event. This result has led to much speculation about leading to Balor's arrival to the main roster.
These are the things that stood out to me this month, which was a very newsworthy month in the world of Pro Wrestling. Hopefully the rest of the year holds as much excitement.
