The WWE gave Kalisto a push as a singles competitor while Sin Cara was hurt and he won the United States Championship from Alberto Del Rio. Since winning the title at the Royal Rumble, Kalisto defended his title against Alberto Del Rio in a Two out of Three Falls match at Fastlane and hasn’t been featured as a prominent role on either Raw or SmackDown.
As a fan of Lucha libre and his resemblance to my favorite wrestler of all time Rey Mysterio I have become a big fan of Kalisto. I was hoping for Kalisto vs. Sin Cara in a mask vs. title match to end the relationship between The Lucha Dragons. This would finally get Kalisto by himself and end the terrible career of Sin Cara. The two could open WrestleMania 32 in an exciting “Cruiserweight” bout that would get the fans invested into the show.
The midcard for the WWE is lacking since the only opponent they could find for Kalisto is Ryback. I have never been a big fan of Ryback but I still don’t think his new heel change has gotten over and don’t think this match is WrestleMania caliber. Instead of putting the Intercontinental Championship in a multi-man match they should have done a multi-man ladder match for the United States title. You can throw Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, Ryback even Sin Cara in this bout to make it more exciting then a one-on-one match between Kalisto and Ryback.
Kalisto is a great in ring performer and deserves better than the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal so at least he is in a singles match but Ryback isn’t the opponent that will help get him over as a legit United States Champion. If the WWE doesn’t put a bigger push behind Kalisto he may have a similar fate that his Lucha Dragon partner Sin Cara has seen.
