Apollo Crews def. Tyler Breeze
I'd complain about Crews being directionless, but that'd merely be me beating a dead horse at this point, so I'll just focus on the match. These two contested a pretty good match at last year's NXT TakeOver: Respect special almost exactly one year ago and it seems their in-ring chemistry has only improved over time. I really liked how Breeze flew solo here because it allowed him to showcase his skills and prove to those in the back he can hang on his own. They told a solid story with Breeze working over Crews' injured knee and it was an entertaining affair on the whole.
Kane def. Baron Corbin by Disqualification
I was honestly shocked when I heard that they were blowing off this first time ever encounter on Main Event. It isn't a money match by any means, but they have been teasing it from time to time over the past month. And they still could go back to it if they want given this match ended in a non-finish. It was just weird seeing a Main Event match conclude in a disqualification seeing as how that rarely happens on this program nowadays. Regardless, this match was exactly what you'd expect it to be with a ton of punching, kicking and rest holds, so I assume we'll be seeing more of that on SmackDown Live soon.
I would definitely constitute this as an above-average edition of Main Event. We've finally moved past the phase (or at least I hope we have) with The Hype Bros facing every team in the tag division and Raw Superstars wrestling on the show. That said, I did find interesting the show's opening features Raw roster members now and not just SmackDown. Either way, Kane vs. Corbin was boring albeit decent and Crews vs. Breeze was a treat, so it's a show worth checking out if you have the time to kill (for the matches only, of course).
