I am a big believer of everything happening for a reason. Our lives are not defined by what happens to us but rather how we react. We can never anticipate what will happen in our lifetime, and sometimes, there is no preventing it, good or bad. But what do control is our actions. We take full responsibility of how we react to something. If a tragedy occurs, you can either live in the past and never move on or use it as motivation to be even stronger. That's a choice you can make.
I'm always looking for new keys to positive thinking, and I've had a major realization in the last few weeks. And I'll preface this by saying what I have been preaching for years: you will never need anyone to make you happy except yourself. You hold the key to your own happiness. Furthermore, I have discussed my shortcomings in the world of romance here on the page before, all from several years ago. That said, I recently met someone that I have more of an interest in than I have in a long, long time, someone who makes me infinitely happier just based off any interaction I have with her.
I don't provide updates here on the page at the risk of it all going south, but it is relevant to today's topic. I got discouraged at various points, constantly thinking about if it didn't work out and if she didn't feel the same way, and nothing good came out of that. Feeling sorry for yourself gets you nowhere. When I thought about what went wrong, a favorite quote of mine came to mind: “Nobody cares if you're miserable, so you might as well be happy.”
So, I took my mind off the situation and started focusing more on what made me happy, and wouldn't you know, awesome things starting happen, specifically with “her.” It's the exact opposite of what you would typically expect. If you're in a great mood because something great did or will happen, right? That can be the case, but not necessarily. If you're in a great mood to begin with (and in order to accomplish this, you have to focus on what currently makes you happy or what would make you happy), THAT'S when great things start to happen.
People will associate themselves with what–and who–is positive. People don't like being around what's negative. They may feel bad for you, sure, but once they realize there's nothing they can do to help you, they'll leave you to your own misery. So, why not just be happy? If you THINK positive, then something positive WILL happen. You just need to WANT it to happen. It sounds simple, but it's a formula that is guaranteed to work. Give it a try.
Oh, and there's someone out there for everyone. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but eventually. Everyone gets what they deserve. It's the natural balance of life. If you don't think there is, then there won't be. You just have to have faith and patience.
I have never been one to stress out about finding that special someone (at least not since I came to college), and perhaps I have found that person at long last, but time will tell. All I know for now is that life could not be better, and whether it works out or not, I'll know it was destined to be either way. Learn from today to help better tomorrow.
