It's here. WrestleMania week is finally upon us. Unfortunately, WWE has failed to make it feel like it's that time again, in what has been a mostly underwhelming Road to WrestleMania, leaving some fans not so optimistic.
It sure isn't hard to see why, either (I will give a nod to SmackDown, Raw has left much to be desired). Here are a few reasons why some of the fans may have felt this way.
3. Pointless Segments/Angles, or Unexplained Stuff
Remember a few weeks ago when the Undertaker returned to Raw, and his entrance was actually longer than his promo? After his usual long entrance, he finally got into the ring and barely spoke a sentence. I know Undertaker hasn't exactly been one to speak on the mic but even this left a lot of fans perplexed and confused.
Another thing here, one of the few bright spots recently on RAW for me has been the Dean Ambrose/legends segments, which saw him interact with hardcore legends Mick Foley, and Terry Funk. I thought this may be leading up to something big like one final legend cameo.
Instead, it appears after the go home show on this past Monday's Raw not to be the case. I wasn't really sure what they were doing, it seemed like a pointless segment as we saw Ambrose come out to Lesnar in the ring with a few weapons. They did nothing.
Perhaps one of the more frustrating things for fans, is the United States Championship match between Kalisto and Ryback. Look, I like Ryback but the two just don't have the best in ring chemistry together.
Lastly, I have gotten tired by now of Triple H and Roman Reigns fighting like they have. While Reigns is not by any means great on the mic (probably better than most would like to give him credit for) I have loved the straightforward to the point promos he has conveyed. I think I can say for everyone that we have heard the same thing from Triple H. I was also hoping for something more or at least different, Monday, plus hadn't we already had their match promoted once already during the night?
We all saw HHH retaining at WWE Roadblock from a mile away, despite WWE's attempts to tease a change, and before that we pretty much saw HHH winning the Rumble, and Reigns' victory in the Triple Threat at WWE Fastlane.
It is quite clear what these all point to. The outcome for Undertaker/Shane is not really in question, either given the stipulations. The idea of Shane beating the Undertaker at 'Mania is by itself a bit bothersome to me, yet the idea of Shane controlling Raw is a fun thought many have entertained, yet that is the match's selling point. Do not expect anything other than the Deadman winning to happen.
1. Missed Opportunity
Vince McMahon, ultimately while he is who we know him to be for his successes has been known in the past of not capitalizing on talent, or just missing opportunities. The idea applies perfectly for one match on the card. Instead of booking what would be a pure wrestling match, WWE has for some reason to book another 7 man Ladder match for the Intercontinental title. We get a pure wrestling match for the Divas title, so why not a one on one match between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn?
The history of the women in the match has been brought up (their pre-main roster days). This only frustrates me more, not because I don't want the women to have a chance to perform on the grandest stage, but since they are dismissing significance. They are disregarding history.. History between two men, as well as of the famous IC Title. We are still trying to elevate the status of the mid-card titles, right?
WWE has a nice streak going with a satisfying WrestleMania the last two years, let's hope they can pull it off Sunday otherwise don't be surprised if NXT Takeover is the more enjoyed event by fans. Lets just hope all the events are enjoyed highly, if not that than equally.
