Shawn Spears def. Billy Gunn
Gunn has been with AEW since the beginning as a coach and has wrestled occasionally for the company, mostly on Dark alongside his son Austin. To be honest, that's the only role he should be utilized in this point. I had no desire to see him wrestle in a singles capacity here, but desperate times call for desperate measures. It wasn't entirely terrible, but it dragged on and didn't off anything interesting. On the bright side, Spears scored a necessary victory, but this was nowhere near the level of his outing against Cody from last week's Dynamite.
I know I said last week that AEW can't continue to run squash matches every week on Dynamite, but I'll take that formula over this any day. I'd almost understand it if the match was an entertaining all-out sprint, but I found this to be boring. I would have preferred that they air video packages promoting the AEW TNT Championship Tournament or Jon Moxley vs. Jake Hager for the AEW Championship coming up on Wednesday night as opposed to running one matchup that was clearly designed to kill time and nothing more. Again, it'd be a different story if it was great, but this was as basic as could be.
