Shawn Spears def. Max CasterI realize he didn't use it to win here (nor should he have because Caster is a no-namer), but it'd be nice if AEW bothered to explain the significance of the glove Spears has been wearing during his matches lately. Tully Blanchard is clearly giving him something to fill it with when the referee isn't looking, but that's about it. It's encouraging that Spears is picking up more wins, but until he starts beating more important people, I'm not sure many viewers will care (especially after all the bad booking he's endured up to this point). Lance Archer def. Pineapple PeteArcher squashes are always fun, but this really should not have lasted as long as it did. I know Pineapple Pete has been all over AEW programming for several months now, but Archer should have come across as more dominant than he did. Joey Janela got in the ring afterward to fend off Archer as they'll be going one-on-one next week at Fyter Fest. If we're lucky, it will be over quickly and decisively. Ricky Starks def. Griff GarrisonStarks looked super impressive in defeat when he challenged Cody for the AEW TNT Championship two weeks ago and he had another standout performance here. He just has the aura of a star and can go far if handled properly. He hit his signature spots and secured the victory in clean fashion. I read a report indicating that AEW laid out plans for him halfway through his matchup with Cody, so I guess we'll see soon if that's true or not. Scorpio Sky def. Brady PierceI'm loving the new music for Sky. Excalibur and Taz emphasized on commentary that Sky, while still a part of SCU, will be focusing on being a singles competitor going forward. He has the potential to go far and looked great here. It was a fun outing that accomplished what it needed to. As I've said before, Sky would be the perfect person to answer Cody's AEW TNT Championship open challenge one of these weeks. Brandi Rhodes and Allie def. KiLynn King and Skyler MooreJustin Roberts announced Brandi and Allie as "The Nightmare Sisters," but Brandi corrected him and said they weren't sisters, which was funny. For those who missed it, QT Marshall wasn't at last week's tapings due to being exposed to who someone who had COVID-19 and opting to stay home. Allie resorted to bringing a sign with his face on it down to ringside instead. As a match, this wasn't very good at all. Brandi should stay as far away from the ring as possible and Allie has underwhelmed big time as a wrestler since signing with AEW. This managed to further their story, but that's about it. The Butcher and The Blade def. Low Rida and Fuego del SolThe Butcher and The Blade largely bore me, but I appreciated that they showed more intensity than usual here. They'll be teaming up with The Lucha Brothers against The Young Bucks and FTR next week, so they desperately needed a victory here to build some credibility. Low Rida and Fuego del Sol had solid showings, but this wasn't an overly exciting outing on the whole. The Young Bucks def. Peter Avalon and Brandon CutlerDespite breaking up just last week, Avalon and Cutler were already back together on this edition of Dark at the behest of Young Bucks. The outcome was never in doubt, but it was a decent showcase for Young Bucks heading into their eight-man tag team match next week against The Butcher, The Blade and The Lucha Brothers. Young Bucks rarely appear on Dark, so this was a nice treat. Overall ShowI can't stress how happy I am that Dark was actually around an hour long this week as opposed to 90 minutes. No show filled with nothing but enhancement matches should exceed the one hour mark in my opinion, regardless of how talented some of the featured performers are. There weren't any matchups on this episode that stood out as special, but the effort was there and the last-minute Fyter Fest hype was well done.
