By Graham "GSM" Matthews TNA World Heavyweight Champion Magnus Called Out MVP It was great to see Magnus cut his own promo for once and not have Dixie Carter cut one for him. He is excellent on the mic and I enjoyed his verbal exchange with MVP. He has all the tools to be a major player in TNA, but his recent lackluster booking has hindered him significantly. This segment showed how good he can be when he isn't hiding behind Dixie. The subsequent brawl that ensued was fine for what it was, but at least it helped hype the main event title match for later in the night. Samoa Joe def. DJ Zema and World Tag Team Champions The Bro-Mans in a 3-on-1 Tornado Handicap Match Joe has been on fire in recent weeks and cut yet another intense promo prior to the match, but the real issue here was having the tag team champions lose in a three-on-one scenario. Then again, it's The Bro-Mans, so I don't expect them to be booked any differently. If that's the case, why are they the title holders to begin with? As annoyed I am by The Bro-Mans, they have their place on the card as comedy fodder enhancement talent (as we saw here), not champions. Thus, I hope The Wolves beat them for the belts sooner rather than later.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension def. Casey Marion and Mike Lebosca (Non-title) Same match, different week. I would complain about The Ascension competing in what felt like their millionth squash match, but the Full Sail University crowd actually made the match for me. Their "YAH!" chants for Konnor were hilarious and they didn't appear to be completely bored during an Ascension match for once. That still doesn't mean that they constant squash matches from there don't annoy me, and I would like to see them move into something more substantial sooner rather than later. Emma def. Summer Rae Most of the Divas matches on NXT in recent weeks have been uninspiring in opinion, but this match managed to break that streak. Not only were they given great time, but they told a good story throughout with Emma battling back throughout and eventually overcoming the odds to pick up the big victory. It was a nice momentum booster going into her Women's Championship match with Paige, and while I was hoping they whould come face-to-face, at least they are doing that next week before their match. By Graham "GSM" Matthews The Shield def. Sin Cara and Los Matadores Similar to their match against The Wyatt Family last week on Main Event, Sin Cara and Los Matadores had an impressive showing here despite it being obvious that it was a glorified squash match from the get-go. The match went longer than it probably should have, but it was still good action from bell-to-bell. The final few minutes were fun and it was another nice momentum booster for The Shield going into Elimination Chamber. Cameron def. Aksana I found it funny that the video package they aired prior to the bout highlighting Cameron was longer than most Divas matches. Speaking of such, I have a feeling that video package was done to build Cameron up as a challenger to the Divas Championship with Naomi out of action at the moment, possibly as soon as Elimination Chamber on Sunday. The match had a story behind it with Aksana being the one who injured Naomi, so at least it wasn't completely meaningless. Cameron has improved in the ring as of late to the point where her matches aren't intolerable to watch, so this contest was fine for what it was. By Graham "GSM" Matthews The Elimination Chamber Participants Interrupted Each Other Everyone involved played their role well and established why they believe they will win the Chamber. Not one person's promo stood out above all the others, but it was collectively solid segment. It was paint-by-the-numbers for the most part since we usually get something like this every year, but it was effective in hyping the upcoming Elimination Chamber match and setting up other matches for later on in the night. Daniel Bryan def. Christian These two don't square off too often (their last encounter came in July), so this was a relatively fresh match that was a lot of fun to watch. Their styles meshed perfectly and the crowd was very much into the action. Christian acting as a heel as a pleasant surprise. Although I enjoy him as a babyface, he was smart to portray the heel since it obvious Bryan was the fan favorite. The roll-up win for Bryan protected Christian and Kane announcing he would be facing Bryan was a good hook prior to the commercial break. |
