By Graham "GSM" Matthews Natalya def. Alicia Fox One advantage to having WWE Superstars is that it gives performers, specifically the Divas, more time for their matches. However, that opportunity felt completely wasted here. The match between Natalya and Fox was fine for what it was, but the finish seemed to come out of nowhere. It was only mere minutes long, probably the same length it would have been on Raw or SmackDown. So, what was the point? This show constantly consists of Raw recaps, so why not cut one out to allow the women to go longer? Based off Natalya's post-match interview, this match was nothing more than a plug for the return of Total Divas. As good as Natalya is in the ring, her mic skills leave something to be desired. R-Truth and Xavier Woods def. 3MB Putting two teams that no one particularly cares about at the moment against each other might not be the smartest idea, but this is Superstars after all, so I can't say I'm surprised. The in-ring work was good, so take nothing away from the in-ring action, but it's just so difficult to get excited about any involved in this match right now. 3MB is a complete joke, Truth has been stagnant for years, and Woods is damaged good at this point. One can only hope that McIntyre being clean-shaven and the fact he inadvertently knocked Heath Slater off the apron could be a sign that he'll be leaving 3MB sooner rather than later, but that is mostly wishful thinking on my part.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Mojo Rawley def. Bull Dempsey Rawley may still be green in the ring, but at least he's improving on a weekly basis. He at least has the crowd behind him and seeing him celebrate with his friends and family in the audience was a cool moment. I completely forgot he and CJ Parker were even feuding since their rivalry has hardly been mentioned since NXT: Arrival. Parker's character is confusing to say the least, but it beats being a babyface, that's for sure. Tyler Breeze vs. Sami Zayn Went to a No Contest I enjoyed the encounters between Zayn and Graves from a few weeks ago and hoped for the feud to continued. That being said, the feud was furthered nicely on this show by having Graves show a mean streak and knocking Zayn's skull right into the turnbuckle post. The match between Breeze and Zayn, as good as it could have been, was saved for another day. At least it was an excuse to see Breeze's awesome entrance! By Graham "GSM" Matthews Eric Young and Abyss Brawled I liked the organic opening to the show with the shot of Young and Abyss going at it backstage. Their brawl that led into the ring was pretty basic, but it still doesn't get me excited about their pending feud that we've already seen before. It was good that Abyss got the upper hand after being beaten down last week, but I'm still not sure how many people see him as a legitimate threat right now. It also served as an intriguing hook for the rest of the night as to whether Young would be chained to Abyss during the main event match. Ethan Carter III def. Bobby Lashley by Disqualification The match was decent enough, but they weren't able to get out of first gear before the disqualification. Lashley seemed gassed early on, so perhaps he needs a few more matches under his belt before he engages in any blockbuster bouts in the near future. The non-finish was logical in that it kept EC3's undefeated streak alive and protected Lashley. It's too early in his return for him to be getting pinned/submitted. Willow's recent attacks on Rockstar Spud and now EC3 indicate that Magnus will be his next victim, but time will tell. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Cody Rhodes and Goldust def. The Real Americans As much as we've seen these two teams work together in the last few months, they never cease to entertain with their great chemistry and in-ring work. It was given very good time and their were several spots that made this match stand out from all the other encounters the two tandems have had in the past. Since The Real Americans defeated The Usos and now the Rhodes brothers have defeated The Real Americans, one would assume that this sets up a multi-team tag team title match for WrestleMania 30. However, the commentators made mention of a No. 1 contender's Fatal 4-Way on SmackDown, so perhaps that isn't the plan after all. Either, I hope they find a meaningful place on the card for both The Real Americans and the Rhodes brothers. The Funkadactlys def. Layla and Alicia Fox As good as it has been to see Naomi back in action, it was also good to see Layla (who looks as gorgeous as ever) back on television. She missed several months of action, and she didn't appear to miss a beat in this match, either. At least she isn't using that terrible theme song again (the one Tiffany once used). The match itself was fine for what it was and wasn't a train wreck given that Cameron was the only true green wrestler involved, and even she has improved. It was a logical win for Naomi and I hope to see her contend for the Divas Championship at WrestleMania. |
