Mil Muertes def. Fenix
As well wrestled of a match as this was, what made it truly great was the story going into it. Fenix was the one to end his undefeated streak and take his girl Catrina, and thus Muertes was out to exact revenge. That said, they worked a highly exciting match that kicked off the night on a high note. Muertes was able to get his win back, but Fenix was ultimately the last man standing. Catrina mocking Muertes after the matchup was also a nice touch.
Big Ryck def. Sexy Star to Earn the Right to Face The Crew
I'm all for intergender matches, but you really had to suspend your disbelief for this match. Star stood absolutely no chance against Ryck, but it was commendable how she held her ground and Ryck didn't hold much back. At the same time, he didn't completely demolish her and established himself as a face when he beat her by pinning her shoulders down to the mat instead of slamming her down. Ryck can really thrive as a non-nonsense badass babyface and his eventual clash with The Crew should be fun.
El Texano def. Alberto El Patron by Disqualification
I didn't know much about Texano before the bout other than his recent feud with Patron, but the story of personal hatred was definitely transparent in this match. The action was very enjoyable and the nearfalls down the stretch were suspenseful and the live crowd bought into them. El Patron seemed so motivated here and it's such a shame WWE never booked him the way he should have been. El Patron cost himself the win, but he was most focused on giving Texano his comeuppance. If the rivalry is continuing beyond this point, they need to find a way to get heat back on Texano if El Patron's inevitable win over him is going to mean anything.
Lucha Underground is always a fun hour of TV, but this week's episode seemed to be focused more on the three matches and giving them more time to shine instead of focusing on promos or backstage segments. The opener was excellent, the Star vs. Ryck match served a purpose and the main event was fantastic. Per usual, the hour flew by and I'm already looking forward to the cage match between Johnny Mundo and King Cuerno next week.
