The Mack def. Marty "The Moth" Martinez For an Ancient Aztec Medallion
I like how most of the medallion matches this season have been more meaningful in that rivals have fought over them and not just random wrestlers. Mack and Marty don't have as much bad blood as Sexy Star and Mariposa do, but they have history, nevertheless. They put together a fun little match and made the most of the time they were allotted. Mack never ceases to amaze me with his insane athleticism. He was the right winner here, but I dig The Moth. I would say he can't go far with his current character, but this is Lucha Underground after all, so he might have a chance of being more than an enhancement talent at some point down the line.
El Siniestro de la Muerte def. King Cuerno
The new name (?) for the living spooky skeleton from The Disciples of Death sounds badass, but he could really benefit from a fresh look. The one he has now brings back memories of his days as a glorified loser in the aforementioned trio. I don't recall Cuerno ever officially turning babyface, but it's uncharted territory for him, so I don't mind it. The match was hardly anything of note because it didn't last long at all. It was a logical win for Muerte to build him up and Cuerno was protected in defeat, but it definitely felt like a step back for Cuerno.
Cage def. Mascarita Sagrada to Retain His Ancient Aztec Medallion
Well, this wasn't much of a match because it was over in the matter of a minute, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. This probably made me a bad person, but it was a blast watching Cage decimate Sagrada (though I'm sure I wasn't the only one). Nothing against Sagrada, but it was just funny for some reason. Famous B is effective in the managerial role and him forming his own group of misfits could be interesting. Also, I have no desire to see Cage feud with Chavo Guerrero over his stolen medallion because, truthfully speaking, I have no desire to see Chavo.
Sexy Star def. Mariposa in a "No Mas" Match For an Ancient Aztec Medallion
If you couldn't already tell, this was Lucha Underground's version of an "I Quit" match, and the stipulation made sense with the story they've been trying to tell with these two women since the start of the season. I've never been the biggest Sexy Star fan, but she typically works best from underneath and thus she found great chemistry with Mariposa because of their dynamic. They went to the extreme but not to the point where it was cringe-worthy. I don't know if the blood was necessary, but it was certainly a cool visual. It wasn't until about halfway through the bout that I was officially invested, but they deserve a ton of praise for putting forth a hell of a performance.
With three medallion matches, it was a newsworthy show on paper, but a mediocre hour of wrestling on the whole. However, the main event is absolutely worth seeking out and it was refreshing to see the women get the spotlight for a change. The rest of the show didn't do much for me, but I can't say enough good things about the "No Mas" match as it honestly exceeded my expectations.
