Lucha Underground: Ultima Lucha Tres Review - October 11, 2017

Picture
By Graham "GSM" Matthews

Sexy Star def. Taya in a Last Luchadora Standing Match

Yes, Sexy Star is a piece of shit for what happened at that AAA TripleMania event back in August, but putting that aside for a moment (this was taped well over a year ago, anyway), this was a damn good women's match. I felt it was a bit too similar to the street fight Ivelisse and Catrina had last week, but it was still a (literal) bloody brawl that the crowd was super into. Star picked up the "feel-good" win, but I really hope this is the last we see of her in Lucha Underground (assuming the show is picked up for a fourth season).

The Mack, Killshot and Dante Fox def. The Reptile Tribe to Win the Trios Championship

Killshot and Fox basically attempted to kill each other two weeks ago in their match, yet they didn't seem to tease any tension here. Maybe they gained respect for one another? That's my best guess, but despite that, I love the idea of the two of them as partners. They have natural chemistry with The Mack and this turned into a real fun six-man match in the second half. The Reptile Tribe hasn't done anything at all with the straps since winning them, so it made sense to pull the trigger on a title change.

Pentagon Dark def. Son of Havoc in a Ladder Match to Win the Gift of the Gods Championship

When you put two of Lucha Underground's biggest fan favorites together in a Ladder match, you have to know that magic will ensue and that was exactly what happened here. Pentagon and Havoc went the extra mile in producing an incredibly awesome main event by taking as many insane bumps as possible and using the extreme environment to their advantage. This was all action from start to finish and Pentagon's Gift of the Gods Championship victory came across like a major deal. We'll see if he makes his presence felt at all on next week's season finale during the Lucha Underground Championship match.

Overall Show

Part 3 of Ultima Lucha Tres was every bit as enjoyable as the first two with three fantastic matches. Each of them had something special to offer and resulted in an exceptional episode on the whole. With two title changes and the women having a hell of a opener, you can't go wrong with this show and Part 4 certainly has its work cut out for it. The season finale promises to be phenomenal with what's on tap, but the bar has been set pretty high following these first three installments and I'm excited to see how it will top them.
