ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes def. ROH World Television Champion Kenny King and ROH World Champion Dalton Castle
This was a clash of champions of sorts, and considering it isn't something we see often in ROH, it felt special. That said, I hate when title holders lose non-title matches for no real reason. At the very least, it was an entertaining tag team affair that furthered a few storylines with Silas Young costing King the match and Marty Scurll confronting Castle afterward after sitting in on commentary throughout the bout.
Cheeseburger vs. Kikutaro Ended in a No Contest
You had to know this was going to be a complete comedy fest as soon as you saw who was going to be competing, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing because I found this to be dumb fun and the crowd seemed to be in the same boat given they popped for mostly everything they did. Plus, the bout didn't overstay its welcome with The Dawgs interfering and causing the contest to be thrown out. Expect The Dawgs to meet Cheeseburger and Kikutaro in a tag match at Supercard of Honor.
Mayu Iwatani def. Deonna Purrazzo in a ROH Women of Honor Championship Quarterfinal Match
The inclusion of the female wrestlers from Stardom in this tourney was really smart, as they have had the best bouts I have seen so far. This was no exception as Iwatani and Purrazzo both put forth strong efforts and produced an awesome match. They also received plenty of time, which was a pleasant surprise as well. I'm disappointed Purrazzo isn't going all the way to the finals, but Tenille Dashwood vs. Iwatani (if that's what it ends up being) would be excellent as well.
Cody and Kenny Omega Brawled
Cody and Omega haven't had much interaction on ROH TV whatsoever outside of their interaction at the 16th Anniversary Show, so this was a necessary segment and a ton of fun at that. Cody's mic work was on point at as always, while Omega was the hot babyface the crowd was clamoring for. The brawl that subsequently ensued was well done and a hell of way to lead into their main event match this Saturday night.
As a go-home show, this edition of ROH TV was super successful in getting me amped up for Supercard of Honor. The title matches were effectively hyped thanks to the quality opener, the ROH Women of Honor Championship Tournament progressed in an above-average match between Iwatani and Purrazzo, there was some decent comedic filler, and Cody and Omega had a strong physical altercation. I don't know which event I'll be watching on Saturday night (Supercard of Honor or NXT TakeOver: New Orleans), but both look spectacular on paper, so you can't go wrong with either one. Enjoy the wrestling-filled weekend!
