Humberto Carrillo def. Gentleman Jack Gallagher by Disqualification
Drew Gulak has been trying to recruit Carrillo into his faction for a while now, and after they unsuccessfully teamed up two weeks ago, Gulak had him face his right-hand man, Jack Gallagher. It was a logical match to do from a storyline standpoint and it was well-wrestled on the whole, but I don't blame the fans in attendance for not being all that into this. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary, so they probably should have worked a flashier style to really capture the crowd. The disqualification finish was lame, but Gallagher turning on Gulak is interesting. Are one of them destined to be drafted to another brand in next week's Superstar Shake-up?
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese def. Buddy Murphy
I really enjoyed the match these two had at WrestleMania 35, but I found this bout to be even better. Maybe because it happened in front of a fuller arena? Either way, their chemistry is off the charts and this was exactly the type of matchup I wanted them to have. After all, there were a lot of fans in attendance who don't regularly watch 205 Live and were probably impressed by what they saw here. The crowd was hot the entire encounter and the nearfalls down the stretch were fantastic. Props to both guys for putting forth a hell of an effort. I'm hopeful that the rematch was held so Murphy could be moved to either Raw or SmackDown Live in the Shake-up, but that just might be wishful thinking on my part.
I was fearful that 205 Live wouldn't put their best foot forward on one of the biggest nights of the year (thanks to the rowdy crowd) coming off that less-than-stellar opener (which would have been perfectly fine on any other episode), but Nese and Murphy proceeded to prove me wrong with their outstanding outing. Seriously, that was one of the best matches I've seen all WrestleMania weekend, so definitely check it out at your leisure. I'm interested to see how 205 Live will be affected by the upcoming Shake-up, if it all. If it were up to me, I'd move Cedric Alexander (who will be facing Oney Lorcan next week) and Murphy to the main roster and bring in some fresh faces from Raw, SmackDown Live and NXT to help spice up the show a bit as we head into the spring season.
