Lio Rush def. Lince Dorado
Rush blames Kalisto for costing him a spot in the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Fatal 4-Way at the Royal Rumble when they faced off two weeks ago, which is why he decided to take out his frustration on Dorado hero. As expected, it was a very fun match with a nice pace and the right outcome. This rivalry reminds me a lot of The Lucha House Party's recent feud with TJP, so although it probably won't be much different, at least it gives them and Rush something to do for now and I'm sure the matches will be a blast.
WWE Cruiserweight champion Buddy Murphy def. Humberto Carrillo (Non-title)
I hoped someone new would face Murphy, give him hell and look strong in defeat. Well, at least I was right about it being a debuting Superstar. I'm sure no one was expecting Carrillo to answer Murphy's open challenge, and while he's a welcome addition to the 205 Live roster, he felt like a bit of a letdown considering hardly anyone knows who he is. This was a pretty good match, but it lacked a sense of urgency until the very end and lasted longer than it needed to. The crowd was noticeably dead, too, so that didn't help matters, either. Carrillo had a solid first showing, but this wasn't nearly as exciting as I envisioned it being.
I was really excited for Murphy's open challenge, and while it was a quality main event, it didn't exactly meet my lofty expectations. Then again, that might have been my own fault for expecting a more notable name to answer the call. Nonetheless, this was your usual enjoyable edition of 205 Live with an entertaining main event and fun opener. It was far from must-see, mind you, but it served its purpose. Meanwhile, next week's Triple Threat match between Kalisto, Hideo Itami and Akira Tozawa has potential on paper.
