rich Swann def. Ariya Daivari
I saw this exact same match on Main Event last week and it was infinitely more fun than this. Is that because officials don't micromanage what the wrestlers do on that show and instead let them do whatever they want? This was really just a match and nothing more. WWE is limiting these guys to the point where their matches aren't as good as they have the potential to be. At any rate, Noam Dar attacking Swann afterward indicates their feud is continuing, and I couldn't care less.
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville and Austin Aries Engaged in a War of Words
I love when they take this side-by-side approach to interviews because it's a refreshing change of pace from the norm. It worked wonderfully here as Aries and Neville recapped their rivalry dating all the way back to WrestleMania 33, touched upon the Submission stipulation, and stated their case for why they feel they will walk away champion at Extreme Rules. I'm excited to see what type of match they'll put together at the event.
Cedric Alexander def. Johnny Boone
This is how you properly reintroduce a returning wrestler. His comeback was advertised in advance via vignettes, he hit all of his signature spots, scored an easy win, and even adopted an extra aggressive edge we haven't witnessed before. Alexander has been a favorite of mine since the Cruiserweight Classic and I'm very happy he's back in action. Here's hoping they know what to do with him this time around compared to earlier this year.
Akira Tozawa def. The Brian Kendrick in a Street Fight
The Tozawa vs. Kendrick feud has lasted so long that I desperately just wanted it to end, but this was a brilliant blow-off to their long-running rivalry. They made excellent use of the extreme environment and only went hardcore when it mattered. Both guys put forth a strong effort, resulting in a very entertaining match that the crowd came to life for. Of course, Tozawa winning was the right move and I look forward to where he goes from here.
205 Live typically flies under the radar more often than not, but on the whole, this was an above-average episode. Swann vs. Darivari was fine albeit forgettable, but everything that followed was awesome from the Aries and Neville verbal exchange to Alexander's in-ring return to the stellar Street Fight in the main event. I doubt the program will maintain this momentum in the weeks ahead, but as a one-off, it was a highly enjoyable edition of 205 Live.
