WWE 205 Live Review - October 31, 2017

Picture
By Graham "GSM" Matthews

Akira Tozawa def. Drew Gulak

Gulak's Halloween-themed PowerPoint presentation was a treat (pun intended) and I enjoyed the match he had with Tozawa. Their feud over the last month hasn't been anything out of the ordinary, but the matches have been solid. Unfortunately, the crowd wasn't into the action and didn't make this match too memorable. Tozawa winning clean might mark the end of the feud, but I suppose we'll find out next week.

Rich Swann def. The Brian Kendrick

Kendrick and Gentleman Jack Gallagher offering Swan and Cedric Alexander an ultimatum last week for Alexander to join them was a cool cliffhanger for this week's show, but they killed any interest I had in this rivalry as soon as Swann and Alexander entered dressed as clowns. There is no doubt in my mind that was a Vince McMahon call. The match itself was well-wrestled, but it was difficult to take any of it seriously because of the stupid costumes. And this is why people view the Cruiserweight division as a joke.

Mustafa Ali def. Ariya Daivari, Tony Nese and Gran Metalik in a Fright Night Fatal 4-Way Match

This was basically a Trick or Street Fight with multiple people, and I'm not sure if it benefited from the added stipulation or if the silliness hindered it. Either way, the fans in attendance didn't seem to care. They tried their best by utilizing the environment surrounding them and getting creative with the Halloween decorations, but it might have gotten too cute for its own good. Plus, nothing being up for grabs didn't help matters, either.

Overall Show

I noted in my SmackDown Live review that the blue brand was light on Halloween-themed elements despite the holiday, and that might have been because they were holding off for 205 Live. Well, be careful what you wish for. This was a throwaway show that offered nothing of real substance. I liked parts of the main event being the Halloween mark that I am, but beyond that, it was a meaningless match. It was also confirmed on this show that Enzo Amore vs. Kalisto for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship will take place at Survivor Series, adding to what is already a lackluster card on paper.
