Akira Tozawa def. Drew Gulak
The crowd wasn't as hot for Tozawa as I originally thought they would be when he made his entrance, but they quickly warmed up to him through his unmistakable battle cry. Tozawa and Gulak contested a fun little match and I like that Gulak is starting to show more personality. Tozawa, on the other hand, is already crazy charismatic and has a bright future ahead of him if handled properly. This was a nice change of pace from the usual Cruiserweight tag team matches on Main Event.
Titus O'Neil def. Curtis Axel
Putting Axel in front of the post-WrestleMania crowd was a brilliant idea considering his history with "AxelMania" and the audience's adulation with it. In fact, this might be the only crowd he is over in front of as a babyface other than his hometown. The match itself was nothing noteworthy, and O'Neil winning was a head-scratcher (then again, I probably shouldn't be surprised knowing how WWE can be at times). On a side note, how weird is it that both of these guys once competed on the second season of NXT seven years ago? Time flies.
Despite being taped in front of the post-WrestleMania crowd, this edition of Main Event was hardly anything out of the ordinary. Tozawa vs. Gulak was a bit better than what you'd normally see on the program, but O'Neil vs. Axel was a fairly forgettable match. It had the potential to be more exciting if Axel returned to his "AxelMania" roots, but he didn't and O'Neil winning for no reason deflated the crowd. In other words, don't watch this episode expecting anything special.
