United States Champion Sheamus def. Curtis Axel (Non-title)
Axel doesn't pose much of a threat to Sheamus as a singles competitor, but they still worked a well wrestled match. Both of their characters bore me to tears, but there's no questioning whether they can go in the ring and have a good outing. Cesaro on commentary was a nice touch and it appears they're going back to the Sheamus vs. Cesaro feud. Yes, we've seen it before, but is either guy doing anything else right now? Maybe Cesaro will be the one to finally take the United States title off The Celtic Warrior.
Nikki Bella def. Emma
Nikki still received a positive reaction upon her entrance, so perhaps she should change her theme song and leave her current one to Brie Bella. Their wasn't much to the match, but Emma's involvement made it passable. Nikki has come a long way in the ring over the last year or so, but she still needs the right opponent to work with and Emma was that person. Nikki didn't act heelish at all , so perhaps there is more to her alliance with The Authority than what meets the eye.
Slater Gator def. Los Matadores
How did Heath Slater go from beating Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler on Raw to this garbage? Also, did anyone honestly care and/or notice Fernando was even gone? This wasn't a bad match, but the attempt at comedy was. Slater's "winning" streak continued, but please keep him (and Titus O'Neil for that matter) as far away from this trash as possible.
Big Show def. Erick Rowan
Most of the match consisted of rest holds, but Rowan fared a lot better against Show than I thought he would. His slamming of Show should be saved for special occasions instead of being done on a regular basis as a throwaway move. The ending outcome was never in doubt, but I'm still disappointed that The Wyatt Family is being fed to Show and Mark Henry. And for what? To establish them as a tandem? That makes no sense to me seeing how Rowan and Luke Harper are a great team being wasted in this role.
Needless to say, none of the featured matches were must-see, but believe it or not, this was a newsworthy show. Triple H made the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match for Night of Champions official, the Cesaro vs. Sheamus feud kicked off, and Los Matadores returned to action (though that's stretching it a bit). On a side note, I'm not a fan of Michael Cole replacing Tom Phillips on commentary if it means Cole will be on all three of WWE's main shows. Please let this indicate that Phillips is moving to SmackDown to freshen up the Friday night show's commentary team.
