Big Show def. Jack Swagger
Whose bright idea was it to give Big Show a live microphone and let him talk for several minutes? Man, his promo bored me to tears. He didn't say anything interesting at all, but at the very least, he hyped his feud with Ryback and we now know that Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat also featuring The Miz will in fact be happening at SummerSlam. I was shocked at how much time these two were ultimately given, and while it dragged early on, the finishing sequence was well done. Swagger showed good heart in defeat, but unfortunately, his impressive outing here likely won't benefit him any as he'll forever be an enhancement talent.
The Lucha Dragons def. The Ascension
After a few fun matches from these two teams that saw them stray away from their usual formula, they were back to the basics with this bout. The Ascension dominated a majority of it only for the Dragons to make their comeback in the final stretch. We've seen the same match from them multiple times in the past, so this felt like a waste of time.
Unless you're a Big Show fan, there is no reason to tune into this week's edition of Main Event. I appreciate that they did something different for a change by having two of the competitors in the opening match cut a promo and make their match more meaningful, and while it was better than expected, it wasn't must-see by any means. The tag match was also just kind of "there," so you're not missing out on anything by not tuning in.
