Titus O'Neil def. Curt Hawkins
At this point, Hawkins' historic losing streak now stretches over four different years (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), which is impressive in itself. Unfortunately, that's all I have to say about this match, because it was basic at best and abysmal at worst. O'Neil sold for Hawkins' offense early on before battling back and winning with ease. This five-minute matchup was total throwaway.
The Revival def.Tyler Breeze and Zack Ryder
It was announced this past week on Raw that The Revival will be receiving another opportunity at the Raw Tag Team Championship on the first Raw of 2019, so this served as something of a warm-up for them. Breeze and Ryder actually had fun chemistry together, and considering both guys are underrated in the ring, this turned into a fun little tag team affair. It also helped that the crowd wasn't completely dead for this and that they actually came alive down the stretch.
It's a new year, yet the matches on Main Event aren't that much different than what we got last year. O'Neil vs. Hawkins was painfully pointless, but at least the tag team match on the show was well-wrestled and entertaining. It wasn't exactly an electric way to open 2019 by any means, but it wasn't terrible, either. Meanwhile, the SmackDown Live and Raw replays were fine for what they were, making this a fairly average edition of Main Event on the whole.
