Alberto Del Rio def. R-Truth
It was a well-wrestled match for what it was, but similar to Del Rio taking on Kofi Kingston on this week's Raw, we have seen it so many times in the past that it virtually means nothing at this point. That is in addition to the fact that both Truth and Del Rio are stagnant at the moment, thus giving viewers no incentive to care about the match. It was given good time, sure, but it was nothing more than a long, drawn out squash match for Del Rio with a finish that came out of nowhere.
Natalya def. Tamina Snuka
Again, how many times have Natalya and Tamina faced off in recent months? Their matches are always cut short and this was no exception, despite the fact it took place on Main Event. Why are officials so hesitant to allow them to go out there and do what they do best and wrestle? It was a nice win for Natalya, but a disappointing bout as a whole. The post-match attack from AJ Lee furthered her feud with Naomi, who she will hopefully defend her Divas Championship against at some point in the near future.
Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston and The Usos def. 3MB
Who thought putting two over acts on the same team against three jobbers was a good idea? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Langston and The Usos as much as the next person, but it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who was winning here. Nevertheless, it was a fun bout that was basically a showcase for the fan favorites. The finish with The Usos hitting their signature splash simultaneously with Langston's Big Ending was a cool visual to end with.
On some select nights, Main Event can be filled with solid matchups and entertaining action. This wasn't one of those nights. The opening and closing matches were extended squashes with some cool spots thrown in here and there and the Divas match was pure filler. Main Event hardly received any attention during the road to WrestleMania this year, so I don't expect this year to be any different. On a side note, I didn't catch the new theme for the show (I tuned in right afterward), but it sad that "Diamond Eyes" is no more.
