The Ascension def. Heath Slater and Rhyno
I'm slightly surprised we hadn't seen this match on Main Event prior to this point considering both teams have been on the same show for over two months now. That isn't to say I was clamoring for Ascension vs. Slater and Rhyno, though. It was exactly what you would expect with a slow start, a decent middle and a flat finish. The crowd actually seemed to be in disbelief that Ascension won a match for a change. This actually marked their first victory since early 2016, which is insane yet not entirely shocking.
Jinder Mahal def. Zack Ryder
I find it hilarious Mahal has been relegated to Main Event duty given his recent rivalry with Roman Reigns. Then again, I guess the same can be said for Bobby Roode, who was in the main event of the Money in the Bank pay-per-view last month. Nonetheless, this was a solid match with Mahal dominating a majority of it and Ryder battling back toward the end and the crowd rallying behind him. Mahal winning was never in doubt, of course.
On the bright side, both featured matches for Main Event this week were relatively fresh in that we hadn't seen them on the program yet. That said, neither of them were exciting in the slightest and can easily be skipped over, especially considering how little most people care about Ascension and Mahal. The Raw and SmackDown Live recaps were hardly worth watching back, either, so I'd chalk this up to being one of the more forgettable editions of Main Event in a while.
