Luke Harper and Erick Rowan def. Zack Ryder and Fandango
This was basically the same match we saw on Raw this week: a standard squash match for Harper and Rowan designed to showcase their dominance. Ryder and Fandango are damaged goods, so they were the right ones to do the job. They also sold well for Harper and Rowan's offense, so it was a nice little match while it lasted. As I expressed in my Raw review, I'm not surprised they're not in the Elimination Chamber for the WWE Tag Team Championships if the plan isn't for them to win. It's better to build them up as potential challengers in the meantime.
Bo Dallas def. Jack Swagger
Who else remembers the failed feud between these two from late last year? Thankfully, the match meant more this time around after the minor Dallas got on Raw this week. It finally looks like WWE is starting to use him the right way and that was evident based off the aggression he showed in this match (while also incorporating a few of his usual entertaining mannerisms). Wins like this one will help make Dallas feel like a legitimate threat before his eventual match with Neville.
Alicia Fox def. Summer Rae
I could have sworn that these two were allies or something at some point just recently, maybe with Eva Marie? I could be just making this up, I have no idea. Anyway, the match was fine for what it was, but the crowd couldn't have cared less. It's a shame because Fox and Summer are very good athletes, but the match not serving a purpose at all killed any interest I had in it. Likewise, Fox has turned so many times you just stop caring eventually.
WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day def. Prime Time Players (Non-title)
It would have been nice if the match could have gone longer than just a few minutes, but it was decent while it lasted. Maybe cut out the pre-match promo or possibly the Divas match (again, it was a waste of time)? It's encouraging to see the Players getting more airtime and being in there with the champs, but losing in a few minutes won't do them any favors. Hopefully they can build some more momentum before Elimination Chamber next Sunday as they have a viable chance of winning the gold.
It's rare we get actual storyline progression these days, but we got some in the tag team main event, making this was a pretty passable show on the whole. Harper, Rowan and Dallas scored much needed wins, and while the Divas match felt out place, an appearance by the WWE Tag Team Champions was a pleasant surprise. No matches are worth going out of your way to see, but it was a solid show that didn't feature the same matches we're used to see on this program on a weekly basis.
