Jey Uso def. WWE Tag Team Champion Stardust
It's a well-established fact by this point that I'm no fan of The Usos in singles action because they are much more exciting as a team, but this was a decent match. Moreover, it was successful in giving viewers a reason to believe that The Usos have a chance of winning the WWE Tag Team Championship in the Steel Cage match on SmackDown. It was a match we've seen countless times before, but at least it served a purpose.
Curtis Axel def. Justin Gabriel
In all honesty, I completely forgot Axel was even inactive. I was never a fan of his pairing with Ryback and I couldn't be happier it's over. This was a standard match, but the crowd was pretty dead for it and I can't say I'm surprised. Axel just isn't over. Despite how good of a wrestler he may be, he has no personality and it's hard for audiences to connect with him. He needs to be repackaged if he wants to find success as a singles competitor.
Tyson Kidd def. Sami Zayn
It was awesome to see Zayn showcased on WWE TV. I assume it was done to plug NXT on the WWE Network (even though Main Event also airs on the Network), but he is such a tremendous talent that I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we see him on the main roster full-time. Kidd has also been a shining star on both NXT and WWE TV as of late and any regular viewer of NXT knows of the great matches these two are capable of. This encounter was no exception and the two definitely most of the time they were allotted. Kidd's dirty victory over Zayn furthered his momentum while also protecting Zayn in the process.
Bray Wyatt def. Sin Cara
Why didn't WWE advertise Wyatt's first in-ring appearance on Monday's Raw? That aside, this was a simple squash match designed to give Wyatt the boost he needs. I just can't fathom the fact WWE hasn't done much with Wyatt's feud with Dean Ambrose at all. Viewers still know nothing about why Wyatt is after Ambrose and if there was any time to reveal it, it was right here since neither guy will apparently be on Raw next week.
This was an above-average edition of Main Event that was worth watching for the stellar match between Kidd and Zayn alone. Throw in a Bray Wyatt match and the return of Curtis Axel and you have yourself a solid show. It's not surprising since WWE is trying to push the WWE Network and all its content, so hopefully the quality of the program keeps up going forward.
