Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter Interrupted Seth Rollins
Rollins can't usually be counted on for a long promo, but he did well for himself here. He relied more on video packages than his talking which probably worked to his benefit. Colter was decent on the mic as well and his promo set up Swagger's match with Rollins nicely. It gave the match more meaning as opposed to the bout just happening randomly without any real story behind it.
Seth Rollins def. Jack Swagger
Both Rollins and Swagger are great workers, so I expected an excellent match going in. They worked well together and delivered a very solid matchup. It wasn't a five star classic or anything, but a strong effort from both men. They're both in need of wins right now, so I was fine with Swagger taking the clean loss. Where was Bo Dallas?
Cesaro def. Zack Ryder
Being the broski that I am, any appearance by Ryder is a treat for me. It was a standard squash match for Cesaro and an effective way to boost his momentum going into his Divas Championship match with Sheamus at Night of Champions. I liked that he used a new submission hold to put away Ryder. More wrestlers should have submissions in their repertoire. He cut a good post-match promo and I appreciated his "king of wrestling" line, an obvious nod to his tag with Chris Hero from Ring of Honor.
Adam Rose def. Titus O'Neil
This was the same exact match we saw on Raw for the last two weeks. What was the point in doing it again? There's no point in complaining about how O'Neil is being wasted in all of this, but the bunny stuff will grow old the more they shove it down our throats. I surely hope this is leading to the bunny being revealed as Rose's next rival (the person under the costume, not the actual bunny) because this is all meaningless if that's not the case.
NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension def. Los Matadores (Non-title)
It's about damn time! I'm ecstatic to see The Ascension finally on the main roster, but I don't take this as them being officially called up. Instead, it was a plug for the NXT Takeover special on Thursday, which is excellent. Similar to the tag match on Raw, this helped showcase the bright young talent of NXT even if The Ascension isn't as excited as Sami Zayn or Adrian Neville. My only gripe would be that they didn't hype this beforehand. At least they heavily promoted the Takeover card at the end.
Jack Swagger vs. Seth Rollins was a solid way to kick off the show, but everything else fell flat. Cesaro vs. Ryder was a total squash, Rose vs. O'Neil was throwaway, and The Ascension's debut was well done but horribly mishandled. It would have been nice had they advertised something in advance for this episode, especially The Ascension's match. It was an hour that dragged, but go out of your way to check out The Ascension if you aren't already familiar with the act.
