Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss def. Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch
Make no mistake about it, this tag team is merely a vehicle to launch Sabbatell into super stardom eventually. The guy has the look of a star and he has been making strides in the ring. I've never been too high on Moss, but I'd be lying if I said he hasn't improved, too. This was a blast of a bout largely thanks to Lorcan and Burnch, who are so terrific together. They didn't walk away with the win here, but it did make Sabbatelli and Ross look more like a threat.
Nikki Cross Won an NXT Women's Championship Qualifying Battle Royal
A majority of the women who took part in this Battle Royal were from the Mae Young Classic, but only a handful of them are signed to my knowledge. Here's hoping that changes because a lot of them are quite good. With so many women involved, this Battle Royal was a bit sloppy at certain points, but I really liked the final few minutes with Cross, Billie Kay and Bianca Belair (who absolutely shined). Cross was the right choice to advance and I actually don't know who will emerge as the new NXT Women's Champion come TakeOver: War Games.
The Velveteen Dream Attacked Aleister Black
I figured this would be a filler feud for Black when it first started, but it has been fun to follow in recent weeks. This was another awesome chapter in the ongoing angle with Dream taking it to Black like no one has before and demanding he say his name, which Black refused to do. Dream also escaped the Black Mass kick, so I'm loving the little things about this program and I can't wait for their likely TakeOver match.
Andrade "Cien" Almas def. Roderick Strong
I thought the match Strong and Almas contested at TakeOver: San Antonio this year was vastly underrated, so I was excited for them to clash again on this show and they did not disappoint. The in-ring action was exciting as they beat the holy hell out of each other and pulled out all the stops. Zelina Vega performing an impressive hurricanrana to Strong on the outside was a nice touch and protected Strong in defeat. Not only does Almas continue to build momentum toward the NXT Championship, Strong has a story in place with The Undisputed Era attempting to recruit him. This was a very satisfying conclusion to the episode.
It's nice to know that when Raw and SmackDown Live aren't doing much to pique my interest these days, I can always turn to NXT for guaranteed entertainment. This was another solid show from start to finish with an enjoyable opener, a newsworthy Battle Royal, Black and Dream furthering their feud, and an above-average main event. TakeOver: War Games looks like a pretty promising card on paper, especially when Survivor Series is shaping up to be a lackluster event.
