Erick Rowan def. Tyson Kidd
It's still mind boggling to me that Rowan went from headlining Survivor Series and Raw in a feud with Big Show to doing absolutely nothing on Superstars. On an unrelated note, his entrance music is really starting to grow on me. The match was fun while it lasted as Kidd is always great in whatever role he's in (I got a major kick out of him wearing a Cesaro shirt down to the ring). Rowan going over was no surprise, but I wish they'd do more with Kidd as a singles guy.
Fandango def. R-Truth
I've expressed my disdain for the Fandango character in the past, so there's no real need to get into that here. Moreover, I couldn't care less about R-Truth these days, so you can only imagine how I felt watching this match. It wasn't even that bad of a match. Both of them are great athletes, but their characters are so outdated and overdone to the point where their matches are a bore to watch. I still maintain that Fandango aka Johnny Curtis won't find success in WWE until he ditches the dancing gimmick.
This wasn't the greatest edition of Superstars to kick off the new year with, but I enjoyed Rowan vs. Kidd for what it was. Fandango vs. Truth bored me to tears, but thankfully it was kept relatively brief. I never sit through the Raw recaps, but Monday night's show was excellent so I can't imagine they're dreadful to sit through on this show.
