Naomi def. Rosa Mendes
Did you know? Despite being in WWE for nearly six years, Mendes has won only one singles match in her entire career, and it came via disqualification. That might not be a shocking statistic for some given how terrible she is, and how she landed a spot on the new season of Total Divas is beyond me. I half-expected this match to be absolutely atrocious, but Naomi miraculously carried her to a decent match. I love that Naomi is branching out on her own and she has all the tools to succeed, including charisma and in-ring skills. All she needs to do now is ditch the tired "funky" entrance theme and establish her own identity.
Ryback def. R-Truth
Every match Truth has been involved for the last three years has bored me to tears, but this one was surprisingly good. The story behind the match the commentators played up was that Ryback was building momentum toward the Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal on Sunday. However, this was taped before Raw where it was announced that Truth and Xavier Woods will also be competing. Ryback and Truth were given good time and had a solid outing against each other. The highlight of the bout was when Ryback started up a "Feed Me More" chant at the end, garnering a great reaction from the fans in attendance. I assume this is Ryback just doing his own thing and goofing off, but I'd love if WWE ran with it and turned him back face, the role he is better cast in.
This actually an enjoyable edition of Superstars. It may not seem like it on paper, but the matches were decent to good and both had stories behind them that relate to Sunday's Battleground pay-per-view. I might not suggest going out of your way to watch the show, but it's an easy hour of wrestling (or 15 minutes if you don't count the Raw recaps) to digest if you have some time to kill.
