By Graham "GSM" Matthews Is there anyone out there who actually LIKES doing presentations?! Be it school or otherwise?! I sure don't. But I found a way to quell my nerves for the most part. Right before I do a presentation for a class, I do two things: prepare what I'm going to say (obviously), and get into a “wrestler” state of mind. And by that I mean, I treat any presentation like a wrestler would a promo. If I treat in that way, it makes it so much easier to do. This past week, I had to take part in a debate for my government and politics class on the topic of the NSA tracking our emails and whatnot (I was in favor of it). It was these two girls against me and a partner who I was randomly assigned. As I was ready to go up, the kid I was supposed to do the debate with remained where he was. By Graham "GSM" Matthews After getting done watching “See No Evil 2” (which was excellent by the way) on Saturday night, I left to get food to bring it back to my dorm before watching disc 2 of my Hell in a Cell DVD set. Mind you, the place where I normally get my food from is on the other side of campus and a 20 minute walk from my place and back, and this is around 11 at night, so I was walking through a swarm of kids who reeked of alcohol and weed. And I knew I never, ever wanted to be one of those people. Now, I’ve said before that while I’m straightedge, I’m all for people doing what they want to do and doing what makes them happy. I’m not anti-alcohol or anti-drugs, it’s just something I don’t particularly care for or something I plan on doing, ever. But I think there’s a perception among people my age and others that you HAVE to be drinking or doing drugs to have fun, which couldn’t be any farther from the truth. By Graham "GSM" Matthews You're the one with greatness inside of you already. There are no “ten keys to success.” Truth be told, you already have that one thing you need in order to be successful and, more importantly, to be happy. And that's you! Take a long, hard look in the mirror and realize your own awesomeness. No one else can say that they are you. That in itself is pretty incredible if you ask me, and that's what fascinates me about everyone I meet. I will never meet anyone quite like that person again. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Last night, I caught up with an old friend of mine I hadn't seen in over six years. It was as if no time had passed since I had seen him last. We've been wanting to get together for a while now, going so far back as Christmas break last night and we finally made it happen last night. We talked about what we've been up to in recent years and he mentioned how he's been keeping up with what I've been doing wrestling-wise on Facebook and Twitter. Now, when we were close back in 2008-2009, I was already starting to get into wrestling by that point, so when we met up yesterday, he knew I had been sticking with it. He didn't mind that I liked it then, nor does he mind that I like it now. He actually used to be a fan at one point way back when, but similar to many kids as they got older, he grew out of it and stopped watching because he no longer enjoyed the product. By Graham "GSM" Matthews “No one cares if you're miserable, so you might as well be happy.” –Cynthia Nelms You're going to face hardships in life. There's no way around it, and as harsh as it may sound, you're just going to have to deal with it. Life, however, isn't about what happens to you, good or bad. It's about how you react. In the end, you can't blame life for being bad; shit will happen no matter what. You are responsible for your own actions, no one else. How are you going to react? You just had a bad day where nothing seemed to go right. Most of what happened was likely out of your hands. If there's nothing you can do to control the situation, it isn't worth complaining about. And even if it was your fault, still don't complain; change it! |
