By Graham "GSM" Matthews Fun Triple Threat match to kick off the show with Kenny King successfully defending his X-Division Championship against Zema Ion and Christian York. There was never any doubt that King would be going over here, but the action was fact-paced and kept a consistent pace throughout. It made for an exciting opener and the live crowd was certainly hot for it. The only issue is the fact is that these three are the only competitors in the X-Division aside from Rob Van Dam, so who will be next to challenge for the title? Harmless match with Joseph Park defeating Joey Ryan. Park has remained entertaining over the last year while Ryan generated impressive heat from the live crowd with his pre-match promo. Ryan makes for a nice comedy character, but he should be used in a more meaningful role at some point. Regardless, this match was short and sweet for the most part.

The Shield lay a brutal beating on Big Show. Decent opening segment featuring Jack Swagger and World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio. They've been sticking to the immigration shtick for weeks now, so nothing new was said. Del Rio's impersonation of Swagger was far from humerus for this viewer, but it was mostly harmless. If nothing else, this segment helped further their feud and give both guys good mic time. Fine match with WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No defeating 3MB. While there was nothing necessarily wrong with the match, I simply don't care for either team at this point in time. 3MB have been nothing more than a joke stable in recent months, so they are no threats to the tag titles. Meanwhile, Team Hell No have grown stagnant and really need to part ways sooner rather than later. Nice match between Ryback and Damien Sandow. Sandow's pre-match promo was excellent as always, but it's a shame he didn't get an entrance. Nonetheless, Sandow scored some nice offense over Ryback over the course of the contest, so at least he looked strong in defeat. The ending outcome was never in doubt, but it was still well-wrestled for what it was worth. Great match with World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio defeating Dolph Ziggler. As expected, these two produced some entertaining action and never seem to have a bad match together. My only complaint is that this is the fourth time we've seen this match in the last month, and the ending reuslt was no different. Nonetheless, it was a logical victory for Del Rio, but I hope to see Ziggler get back to his winning ways in the near future. The mid-match angle with Ricardo Rodriguez taunting Big E Langston and AJ Lee was fun and made for an enjoyable exchange between AJ and Daniel Bryan backstage shortly thereafter. By Chris Michaels "Fahn-Dahn-Go!” we have been hearing this name in WWE for months now and finally this superstar after handfuls of vignettes has come to fruition and we saw the television debut of him on SmackDown. He is taking the similar path to how Damien Sandow made his in-ring debut, but instead of refusing not to wrestle opponents because they do not meet his standards, Fandango is refusing not to wrestle until the interviewers and announcers can get his name right. People are already counting Johnny Curtis out and the reason they are is because he has this salsa dancing gimmick and when you think of these kinds of superstars you think of; Disco Inferno, Brodus Clay, and insert failed dancing gimmick here, but these are the kinds of people who I have a gripe with. The people who are already calling for the failure of Fandango are the same people who do not believe that there is a place in wrestling for gimmicks. These are the same people are taking wrestling too serious and believe that all wrestlers should have serious gimmicks. These are the same people who believe every debuting superstar in the WWE should already have a position on the roster as upper mid-card to main event status, but here is the reality. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Good match with TNA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy defeating World Tag Team Champion Austin Aries by disqualification. These two always have excellent matches together, but it didn't seem to capture the same magic this time around. Nonetheless, it was enjoyable while it lasted and the disqualification loss protected Aries. I'm not sure why Aries felt the need to call out Hardy and why Matt Morgan interfered, but I was fine with it. It's about time Morgan was inserted into the World title picture, so here's hoping this actually leads somewhere. Fine segment with D'Lo Brown being revealed as the VP of Aces & 8s. Wes Bricso's promo beforehand was exceptional, but at least it helped cover the groundwork for his match with Kurt Angle at Lockdown. D'Lo Brown has been rumored to be a member of the group for months now, so it didn't come as much of a surprise to most people, but it was still well done regardless. As much as I like D'Lo, I'm skeptical of this move since much like Taz, he is no longer an active in-ring performer. |
