By Graham "GSM" Matthews The Briscoes, Roderick Strong and ODB def. ROH World Champion and ROH Television Champion Jay Lethal, Donovan Dijak, J Diesel and Truth Martini While it wasn't worthy of being the main event of the huge 200th episode, it was still a very fun main event where everyone involved shined. Considering almost the entire episode consisted of clips of past shows/matches, they could have devoted a little more time to this match, but what we ended up getting was good. Perhaps the highlight of the contest was ODB getting her hands on Martini and ultimately pinning him for the win, but you'd think Lethal and Strong would have interacted more than they did with their title match coming up this Friday at Death Before Dishonor. Overall Show Unless you're a huge Ring of Honor fan and want relive some of this classic bouts, I can't recommend you watch this show. As someone who has never seen any of those matches before, even I found myself skipping through most of them because only highlights were shown, not the matches in their entirety. The main event was enjoyable, but not must-see. Above all else, ROH has a iPPV this Friday, so they might have been better off ditching the clip show and instead utilizing this opportunity to sell viewers on the event.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Dixie Carter Announced Jeff Jarrett as the Latest TNA Hall of Fame Inductee About damn time! I realize the Hall of Fame (nor the company itself for that matter) has been around long so it's not looked at as being "prestigious," but it always boggled my mind that TNA never bothered to induct the founder of the organization into their own Hall of Fame. This move shouldn't come as that big of a surprise with Jarrett now back in the good graces of management and apparently in a working relationship with them again. From what I've heard, the ceremony will take place on an upcoming episode of Impact Wrestling, so maybe they're playing it safe in case they won't be on Destination America by September? Bram def. Magnus in a Street Fight Was there any explanation as to why this match was happening? I enjoyed their feud several months ago, but they have hardly interacted at all since then, so it felt random for them to rekindle their rivalry out of nowhere. The match was good for the most part, but I'm surprised they didn't take advantage of the no disqualification stipulation by having James Storm or another Revolution member interfere instead of waiting until afterward. Magnus losing before the big inter-gender tag team bout was a bit confusing, but it gives Bram a nice win since Magnus is on his way out of the comapny anyway. By Graham "GSM" Matthews El Texano def. Johnny Mundo by Disqualification Every match in Lucha Underground serves some sort of a purpose, so this one felt random when it was initially announced. Even a brief backstage segment would have been beneficial in setting it up. It was well-wrestled while it lasted, but both are involved in feuds right now that will culminate at Ultima Lucha, so it was wise to protect Texano and Morrison with the non-finish. I didn't understand the involvement of The Crew (maybe I'm missing something?), but at least Alberto El Patron effectively furthered his feud with Mundo by making the save for Texano. Speaking of which, I appreciated the attention to detail by not completely ignoring the history El Patron and Texano have together. The Mack def. Cage I completely forgot about these two facing off a few weeks ago until this rematch. It did make storyline sense since they got in a fight backstage a one point a while ago, but it would have helped if viewers were reminded of that. This wasn't nearly as impressive of a rematch as their encounter, but it was logical to keep it short and sweet with the Falls Count Anywhere rematch next week. That's a stipulation that perfectly fits the styles of both competitors and should be a blast. By Graham "GSM" Matthews NXT Champion Finn Balor Addressed Kevin Owens It was logical to kick off the episode with the new NXT Champion given this was his first appearance on the program since winning the title in Japan earlier this month. He saved his best mic work for the contract signing, but this promo was still short, sweet and to the point, also serving as effective hype for the contract signing later in the night. Balor is beloved at Full Sail University, so the reaction he received when he came out was an electric way of starting the show. Eva Marie def. Cassie I've been following Eva's training closely (not in a weird way, though) these past few months and I, like everyone else, was anxious to see how she'd perform in her first match back. While she didn't blow me... away (sorry, I couldn't resist), she has improved immensely from the last time we saw her. Her pre-match promo wasn't that bad, either. Then again, that's not saying much considering how god awful she was before, but it's still a step in the right direction. I'm pulling for her and applaud her for putting in the effort to honing her craft. |
