Miz TV with Team Hogan and Team Flair Descended Into ChaosConsidering Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair have appeared on Miz TV twice in the last month, it's somewhat sad that neither of them bothered to recruit The Miz to their respective teams. The segment itself was an absolute disaster. Everyone sounded scripted and the six-man tag team match could be seen coming from a mile away. if this was designed to get me to care about Team Hogan vs. Team Flair at Crown Jewel, it didn't work. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode def. The New DayThis match should have meant a lot more than it did but just ended up serving as hype for the Tag Team Turmoil match at Crown Jewel. What we got from them was decent but far from what they're actually capable of. It didn't help that the finish came completely out of nowhere, though I hope Kofi Kingston taking the pinfall loss for his team will factor into his frustration. In predictable fashion, The Revival and Heavy Machinery came out afterward while The B-Team and The Lucha House Party watched from the back.

Gallus Interrupted ImperiumImperium has been boasting about their dominance over NXT UK for months, so I should have assumed that it was only inevitable before Gallus had something to say about it. This was a solid segment with the two factions having a decent exchange on the mic. Even with the NXT Tag Team Championship, Gallus is far inferior to Imperium in my opinion, but it should be cool to see them clash, nonetheless. The Grizzled Young Veterans def. Ashton Smith and Oliver CarterI thought Carter might be more successful than he was on his own now that he has a tag team partner in Smith, but apparently not. He lost once again, but at least they worked well together before eating defeat. More importantly, this was a very good match. Grizzled Young Veterans are so great and I'm glad they've returned to their winning ways. Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster fending them off afterward seemed to signal a future number one contender's matchup between the two teams.
The Lucha Brothers def. Private Party in an AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Semifinal MatchLucha Brothers and Private Party are two of my favorite teams in wrestling right now, but for as much as I loved this match and some of the insane spots they pulled off, this was way too fast-paced. It wasn't a major gripe by any means, but it was honestly hard to follow the action at certain points, especially when trying to figure out who was legal. I'm all for tag team wrestling getting a chance to shine like it did here and I did think it was an outstanding affair, but I agree with those who believe AEW is too spot-fest heavy at the moment with matches such as this one being a prime example. Less is more, in my opinion. SoCal uncensored def. The Dark Order in an AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Semifinal MatchThis wasn't nearly as wild as the opener yet was equally enjoyable. Dark Order do nothing for me as characters, but at least their matches have mostly been passable so far in AEW. Meanwhile, SCU are just terrific and never cease to get the crowd in their corner. It was only logical that they advanced to the finals after Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix injured Christopher Daniels on last week's show. The finals of the AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament will go down next week.
Rhea Ripley def. Bianca BelairThese two wrestle very similar styles, so I was interested to see how well they'd work together. Sure enough, they had quality chemistry and ended up producing an excellent opener. Ripley and Belair have been booked to look dominant on NXT in recent months, so this was very evenly matched and had some suspenseful nearfalls down the stretch. I'm not usually in favor of interference in matches, but Io Shirai attempting to cost Ripley the victory (only for Candice LeRae to stop her) made sense with the story they're telling with these ladies. Matt Riddle def. Cameron GrimesGrimes has bored me to tears since he debuted in NXT. His matches are usually entertaining, but we know nothing about the guy, so it's been difficult to care about him. That said, this was by far the best bout he's had in NXT to date. He gained a lot from pushing Riddle to his limit and had a hell of a performance. Mauro Ranallo acknowledging the Goldberg-esque chants directed at Riddle was interesting, and Tyler Bate shoving Grimes at ringside afterward set the stage for them to square off next week.
