By Graham "GSM" Matthews Nice impromptu match with James Storm defeating Kazarian. Neither guy was originally advertised, so this was a smart way of including both Storm and Kaz on the show and effectively killing time. The pre-match promo was enjoyable and the crowd was hot for it. The match itself was well wrestled, but it was over within five minutes. Nonetheless, this was a good way to kick off Final Resolution. Fun match with Rob Van Dam defeating Kenny King to successfully retain his X-Division Championship. There wasn't much of a story going into it, but the commentators noted that much of King's offense was modeled after Van Dam, so that could be a good start to an eventual feud between the two. King had an impressive showing against the X-Division Champ and I hope this feud continues past this point.

The Shield lay a brutal beating on WWE Tag Champ Daniel Bryan. Decent opening segment featuring World Heavyweight Champion Big Show and Sheamus. Contract signings are never that exciting to begin with, so I'm not sure what purpose this served. Sheamus and Show did well on the mic here, but the contract signing itself seemed unnecessary. However, the segment helped hype two matches for the show. Good match between World Heavyweight Champion Big Show and WWE Tag Team Champion Daniel Bryan. It's nothing we haven't seen before, but it still featured nice action. Bryan works well with Show given the vast size difference, so his loss was understandable. The Shield ambush was smart booking and gives the group excellent exposure on the blue brand. Entertaining promo featuring Damien Sandow and The Miz. Sandow's weekly segment with him calling out a member of the live crowd is reminiscent of the Million Dollar Man and it's consistently hysterical. I enjoyed Miz's interference, as his humorous lines were short, sweet, and got him over with the crowd. I'd be all for a feud between these two at some point. Fine six-man tag team match with 3MB defeating Brodus Clay and the Usos. There was nothing all that significant about this match except for the fact that the action was rather mediocre. The outcome was never in doubt, but it was still nice to see McIntyre back in the ring and picking up the win for his team via the Future Shock. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Solid segment to kick off the show featuring the six competitors in the night's main event. I loved the Fortune flashback from Kazarian, as five of the original members of the group were involved in that contest, so I'm glad they made mention of that. This did a nice job of furthering the feuds involved and hyping the bout for later in the night. Brief match with Devon defeating Samoa Joe to win the TNA Television Championship. The action was fine for what it was, but felt too rushed. It ended earlier than expected with the logical outcome of Devon winning the belt. While it makes sense to give Devon the title while he's a part of Aces and 8s, it puts an end to Joe's rather entertaining reign as champ. WWE Champion CM Punk takes a lie detector test with Paul Heyman. Good tag team match to kick off the show with WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No defeating the Prime Time Players. While the focus of this bout was obviously on The Shield and when they'd attack, the match itself was very well wrestled. I always appreciate the effort in having a match open the show, which is a nice change of pace. Furthermore, featuring The Shield in the opening segment felt unpredictable and set the tone for the rest of the night. Decent match between AJ and Tamina. Seeing how this was first teased at Survivor Series a few weeks back, you would think they would've saved this match for a later date (preferably TLC), but that doesn't seem to be the case. With Beth Phoenix gone, they're booking Tamina as the new powerhouse of the division, but she won't gain any heat if she continuously loses matches in the same fashion Phoenix did. Both Divas are good workers, so I was hoping to see more of a story here. Strong promo between WWE Champion CM Punk and Paul Heyman. I found it cool how Punk was able to mention the fact that he'll be surpassing John Cena's record-setting title reign in the next few days and plugged the new WWE Encyclopedia at the same time. Sure, some of The Miz's lines may have come off as a bit corny, but he's still growing into his face person, which I've enjoyed thus far. Only good can come out of putting two of WWE's best mic workers in one segment together, and this also helped hype Miz TV for later in the show. Solid tag team match with John Cena and Sheamus defeating World Heavyweight Champion Big Show and Dolph Ziggler. All four competitors hit their signature spots and the crowd was certainly into it. Unique finish with both Sheamus and Cena hitting their finishers simultaneously on Show and Ziggler, respectively. While I would've preferred the heels to go over, I'm fine with it seeing how it's a sign that they'll be more than likely winning at WWE TLC. Forgettable match between Damien Sandow and Santino Marella. Sandow cut yet another great promo prior to the bout and had an entertaining altercation with one of the "fans" at ringside. While the crowd reacted to some parts of the match, they couldn't have cared less about the action. It was a nice win for Sandow, but Santino isn't as a over as he once was. |
