The Pope Interrupted Trevor Murdoch and Zicky DiceDuring the verbal back-and-forth between Murdoch and Dice, Murdoch revealed that he has since been signed to a full-time contract with the NWA, which is cool. They were interrupted by The Pope (D'Angelo Dinero), who I don't believe I've seen since he left IMPACT years ago. He's still excellent on the mic and cut a good promo here. He basically put the NWA roster on notice before joining commentary for the following match. Ricky Starks def. Eddie Kingston in an NWA Television Championship Tournament Qualifying MatchYou'd think these matches would suffer from the short time frame, but they haven't so far. In fact, it forces them to keep things interesting and work at a faster pace. This was a lot of fun while it lasted with both Kingston and Starks having solid showings. Starks hasn't picked up a lot of wins lately, so him advancing to the next round of the tourney was the next call. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing him make it all the way to the finals.

King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler Attack Daniel Bryan and The MizBryan looks like he's turned back the hands of time with his new shaved look. It compliments his recent character change nicely, as he had long hair throughout his latest heel turn, so the buzz cut and shorter beard distinguish him as babyface. Both he and Miz made it clear that they want another crack at Bray Wyatt but were interrupted and ambushed by Corbin and Ziggler, effectively setting up the night's main event. This opening segment was pretty paint-by-numbers stuff, but it did its job just fine. Heavy Machinery def. The Revival in a Miracle on 34th Street FightMore often than not, I love the holiday-themed matches WWE holds every year, especially the ones for Halloween and Christmas. I can totally understand why most people would think they're terrible, but I'm entertained by them for what they are. This was no exception as Heavy Machinery were the perfect people to put in this type of match and The Revival were fun foils for them. In fact, this seemed to be the highlight of the night for most fans in attendance, as they ate this thing up from start to finish. Afterward, Elias came out to serenade The Revival for some strange reason. Perhaps the rumors of The Revival becoming a comedy team are accurate after all.
Amir Jordan and Kenny Williams def. Pretty DeadlyJordan has been out injured since April, so this marked the official reunion of his team with Williams. I don't see them getting involved in the NXT UK Tag Team Championship scene any time soon, but there's no reason they can build momentum in the meantime. I figured this would be a standard squash win for them, so I was surprised it ended up being as competitive as it was. The tag team division will benefit from having Jordan and Williams back in the fold. Eddie Dennis Attacked Trent SevenSeven spoke about how he's been with NXT UK since the beginning and how everyone together helped build the brand into what it is today. He also addressed Dennis and how he's changed since he's been gone. Dennis was already methodical, but he comes across as even more dangerous now. Before he could say anything to Seven, he hit him with the microphone and told him he'll see him at TakeOver. This was a solid segment to set up their match for the event.
The Lucha Brothers def. Kenny Omega and "Hangman" Adam PageColor me surprised. Corpus Christi is widely known for being a dead wrestling crowd, but they were as loud as I've ever heard them on this show and specifically for this match. They were going nuts at the opening bell! This was an absolutely insane tag team opener. AEW was wise to have this kick off the show opposite of Adam Cole vs. Finn Balor for the NXT Championship on WWE NXT with no commercials as well. I figured Omega and Page would pick up another victory and potentially earn themselves a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship, but I honestly think The Lucha Brothers were the better choice to win. Page and Omega teased tension afterward, but before they could come to blows, Pac interrupted them on the big screen as he was shown beating up Omega's close friend Michael Nakazawa backstage. I assume Omega vs. Page will be saved for the Revolution pay-per-view in February. Cody and Darby Allin def. The Butcher and The BladeNo disrespect to QT Marshall, who fared much better last week than I expected him to, but Allin was a much more natural fit to team with Cody. They had terrific chemistry and got a damn good match out of The Butcher and The Blade. Speaking of whom, they're talented in the ring, but I still don't get their gimmick and what it's supposed to be. It was also strange seeing them lose in only their second outing in AEW, but such is life. Cody winning with something other than a Cross Rhodes was a pleasant surprise, but everyone in AEW needs to cool it with the cutters. I feel like I see multiple each week. As a result of his win, Allin will get his long awaited rematch with Cody from Fyter Fest on the New Year's Day episode of Dynamite.
