Kobra Moon def. Sexy Star
It's a refreshing change of pace to have woman vs. woman matches in Lucha Underground. That's why I love the addition of Kobra Moon to the roster. I don't hate the idea of men facing women as much as some other people do, but it does get a bit silly if overdone (like it was last season with Sexy Star). She impressed me in her debut match and she had an equally enjoyable outing versus Sexy Star as well. I hope this is only the first of more matches to come between the two. And could Kobra Moon be Marty the Moth's sister? It would sure seem that way after she benefited from his distraction, but that could turn out not to be the case.
Pentaton Jr. def. Prince Puma by Disqualification
I have been digging this rivalry thus far because both guys have their own reasons for wanting to go after Mil Muertes. He and Puma have history from last season (Muertes beat him for the belt at Ultima Lucha) and Pentagon, well, he broke his damn arm! They had another very good matchup here and the non-finish protected both guys. We rarely see count-outs and disqualifications in Lucha Underground, but when they're done, they're done effectively. I'm not sure why Mil Muertes would want to defend his title in a Triple Threat against them, but maybe he wants to destroy each of them once and for all. Plus, I can't complain about what should be an exceptional match!
Fenix def. King Cuerno in a Ladder Match to Win the Gift of the Gods Championship
This is another program that I've liked since it started on the second season premiere. Their back-and-forth wins have actually meant something and aren't simply a case of even-steven booking (see: WWE). The Last Man Standing match two weeks ago was great, but this matchup might have been even better. And the best part was that they didn't even spend most of the match climbing the ladder to get the gold! They were too busy beating the crap out of each other all over the temple. Fenix going over was the right move as it sets up him and Muertes in a highly anticipated rematch for down the line, this time for the title.
The three match format worked for this show, as well as the backstage segments that aired in between, and it made for a very entertaining hour of TV, even more so than usual. The women's match was well-wrestled and kicked off what should be an intriguing feud, the next chapter in the Puma vs. Pentagon series was superb and the main event lived up to the hype. Not only that, but we have Aztec Warfare part two coming up in three weeks! Words can't describe how excited I am for that. But as for this edition of Lucha Underground, it was one of the best all-around episodes in recent memory and definitely worth checking out.
