Fenix def. AerostarFenix turning on Aerostar and Drago last week was what led to this match, and because they know each other so well, it was a ton of fun. Aerostar was the perfect person for Fenix to face as a newly-turned heel because he could have an entertaining encounter with him and also pick up the victory. Afterward, he continued to beat down on Aerostar in addition to taunting his girlfriend Melissa Santos (are they still technically together?) and Dragon Azteca Jr., which led us into our next match... Marty "The Moth" Martinez def. Dragon Azteca Jr. to Win the Gift of the Gods ChampionshipAzteca was always scheduled to defend his title against Martinez on this show, and Antonio Cuero couldn't have cared less that he was injured, so the bout went on as planned. Azteca fought his hardest to battle back and retain his title but was ultimately unsuccessful. It was a good match with a solid story that resulted in a new champion being crowned. It wouldn't be the last time we would see Martinez on the show... Lucha Underground Champion Pentagon Dark def. King Cuerno and Mil Muertes in a three-Way MatchThe Triple Threat formulas are always exciting because it ensures that there is never a dull moment and that all three men are constantly in the mix. Pentagon has been up against the odds his entire title reign, so it was fitting for him to have to overcome two competitors in one match. It was enjoyable while it lasted, but I wish it would have lasted longer than it did because the ending came off as anticlimactic. Marty "The Moth" Martinez def. Pentagon Dark to Win the Lucha Underground ChampionshipUsually, the Gift of the Gods Champion has to announce one week out that they will be cashing in their title shot, but things are being run a bit differently now that The Temple is under new management. Thus, Cueto allowed Martinez to cash in his title shot immediately after attacking Pentagon from behind. Their mini-match was suspenseful, but I honestly did not expect Martinez to capture the championship. It was slightly disappointing because Pentagon dropping the strap after all this time should have come with more fanfare. It should be noted that Pentagon only lost because of interference from Chelsea Green (or whatever name she'll be going by), so I'm interested to see what the relationship will be between her and Martinez going forward. Overall ShowEverything on this edition of Lucha Underground tied together, which was definitely cool, even if I wasn't a fan of the outcome of the main event. Martinez as champion is intriguing, but he wouldn't have been my top choice. Nevertheless, this was undoubtedly a newsworthy night with two new champions crowned, an excellent opener, and three more quality matches that could have been a bit better with more time.
