The DCC def. Eli Drake and Tyrus in a 3-on-2 Handicap Match
So, I guess this technically constituted as a face turn for Tyrus and Drake? Or at least for Tyrus considering what happened at the end of the match. Tyrus can be entertaining at times and I enjoyed his mic work here, but the subsequent match was mediocre at best. Of everyone who could have stepped up to challenge The DCC, I figured it would be Ethan Carter III, but he was nowhere to be seen on this episode. Plus, Tyrus and Drake haven't been together long enough for Drake walking out on Tyrus to really pack a punch.
Moose Saved Brandi Rhodes From Decay
Brandi really should be kept off television until she improves not only in the ring but on the mic as well because this was absolutely horrid. Brandi was perfect as a ring announcer in WWE because she has the personality of a piece of cardboard and sounds very robotic in much of what she says. Maybe that will change over time with more practice, but rushing her into a feud with the Knockouts Champion is not wise at all.
Aron Rex def. Robbie E
The Rex character still doesn't do anything for me, but Spud is hilarious in the role as his servant and he never ceases to crack me up. I'm glad Robbie is finally being taken seriously, but it might be too little, too late. I mean, he was the Jersey Shore rip-off dude for over six years and only now is he rid of any dumb gimmicks. The match was pretty basic with Rex cheating to win and presumably keeping the program alive.
World Tag Team Champions The Broken Hardyz Continued Their Expedition of Gold
I'm really interested to see how The Broken Hardyz' "expedition of gold" goes. They obviously have their match with The Young Bucks coming up over WrestleMania weekend, and footage was shown of them invading the Crash promotion in Mexico, but are they going to win titles wherever they go? We'll see what this entails, but so far I'm digging the hell out of it and obviously the fans are still eating up their act.
Impact Grand Champion Drew Galloway def. Mahabali Shera
Shera has been in TNA for two or three years ago and he is still no better than when he debuted. Thankfully, Galloway was able to carry him to a competent contest that didn't last longer than it needed to, but Shera should be featured on the show as little as possible. It was a fine win for Galloway, but whatever happened to his unresolved rivalry with Moose? Is that already over with or will it be revisited in the near future?
Gregory Shane Helms and X-Division Champion Trevor Lee Turned on Andrew Everett
On one hand, this was not built toward whatsoever because no tension has ever been teased between members of The Helms Dynasty. On the other hand, this was definitely for the best. I assume DJ Z will get his title rematch at some point, but DJ Z vs. Lee has been done to death in the past. Everett vs. Lee is a fresh match and it could be absolutely exceptional if they're given the time to go all out.
TNA World Heavyweight Champion Lashley def. Eddie Edwards
Lashley and Edwards have had so many matches over the last year that I grew tired of them facing each other months ago, but on the bright side, they always contest quality matchups and this was no different. It wasn't one of their better bouts, and there was no way they could top their Iron Man match, but this was a solid main event, nevertheless. The heel turns from Davey Richards and Angelina Love could be seen coming from a mile away, but The Wolves have done everything there is to do as a tandem in TNA and splitting them up was the right move. It's also a rivalry that doesn't need the title in order to be compelling.
This was definitely one of the worst all-around editions of Impact Wrestling in recent memory, which is a shame because the on-air product has been rather decent since the start of the year. There was simply too much trash on this episode, but among the highlights were The Broken Hardyz as always and the newsworthy main event/heel turns. Other than those things, you're better off skipping this show.
