Edge and Christian Hosted 'The Cutting Edge Peep Show' with Adam Rose
I feared putting Edge and Christian on Main Event in addition to Raw and SmackDown this week would run the risk over overexposure, but this segment wasn't meant to be anything serious. In fact, it was relatively harmless and fun for what it was. Edge and Christian's antics were entertaining as always and Rose played his heel role well. It's encouraging to see that The Bunny is no longer a part of the act and I'd love it if the rosebuds were the next ones to leave him.
NXT Women's Champion Charlotte def. Sasha Banks (Non-title)
I've always been a big proponent of having more NXT stars on the main shows, but while Main Event is no Raw, it's still a nice platform (even though it also airs on WWE Network). Anyone who saw their clashes at NXT Takeover: R Evolution and on the Christmas episode of NXT know how well these two work together and this was another very good match from them. They weren't given too much time, but just enough to make an impression. It's only a matter of time in my opinion before both of these ladies are called up to the main roster permanently.
Titus O'Neil def. Justin Gabriel
This was an exact rematch from last week's Superstars, but I didn't much considering it was a nice win for O'Neil. 2014 was a terrible year for him because WWE never bothered to push him as a singles guy, but I'm hoping his talk of being more aggressive in the new year comes with a push. He's a funny guy, obviously, but he can have a real mean streak when WWE books him as such. I'm not holding my breath when it comes to WWE actually doing something with him in 2015, but seeing is believing.
WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos def. Gold and Stardust (Non-title)
These two teams have met what has felt like a million times this year, so I guess there wasn't a better pair of opponents for The Usos to close out 2014 with than Gold and Stardust. The match wasn't anything too special or out of the ordinary, but it was a good match and solid way of ending the show.
Why even bothering advertising Santino Marella hosting a New Year's Eve party if he was only going to be involved in two fairly brief backstage segments? If anything, that's more a turnoff to the casual viewer. Not that I'm complaining, though, because I was dreading those segments going into this show and they were thankfully kept to a minimum. This was an enjoyable episode on the whole with the ladies from NXT once again stealing the show, and the appearances from Edge and Christian were fun as well.
