Kofi Kingston def. Tyson Kidd
Kingston and Kidd are capable of having really good matches as we've seen in the past, but The New Day gimmick held it back from being better. It's painfully apparent the crowd isn't behind them since they fail to chant along. It was a decent match, but Kingston winning made me cringe. Granted, the heels got their heat back afterward by attacking The New Day, but they've lost all their matches so far, so how can the crowd take them seriously? I'm sure the six-man match on Sunday will be entertaining from an in-ring standpoint, but were doomed from the start of this "feud."
The Miz and Damien Mizdow def. Los Matadores
This was obviously a last minute attempt to get heat on the heels before they contend for the WWE Tag Team Championship on Sunday. However, my interest remains in whether Miz and Mizdow ultimately split up during the Royal Rumble match. This match was essentially throwaway, but I guess it was better than having face either Jimmy or Jey Uso for the millionth time.
Natalya def. Summer Rae
The "alliance" between Natalya and Paige continues to boggle my mind. I understand they were "friends" on Total Divas, but Paige was still a heel as of a month ago. Natalya and Summer have had better bouts in the past and this was nothing special. Much like every match on this show, it served its purpose in giving Natalya momentum going into the Divas tag team match on Sunday, but that was about it.
Bray Wyatt def. Jack Swagger
Wyatt was the only true "star" on this entire show, and even his match felt like a waste of time. Of course, the ending outcome was never in doubt, but why not give it an extra few minutes? It didn't do long at all and wasn't anything more than a glorified squash match for Wyatt. At the very least, Wyatt has been on a roll as of late and it's been nice seeing him look strong going into the Royal Rumble match.
You know the show is forgettable when the only thing of note that occurred was the announcement that Swagger will be in the Rumble match. I'm disappointed in WWE for not giving an explanation as to why Main Event won't be on the WWE Network for the foreseeable future and instead making it seem like the show doesn't even exist despite it airing in other markets. Now that it's no longer on the Network, you can expect this show to become WWE Superstars 2.0 (as if it wasn't already) since it won't be broadcast in the United States for the next several months.
