WWE Tag Team Champions Prime Time Players def. The Ascension (Non-title)
Personally, I enjoy the Prime Time Players' shtick, so I got a kick out of their pre-match promo encouraging the crowd to do the "Millions of Dollars" dance. At any rate, I appreciated the effort to give them more mic time to help them boost their popularity, but now WWE needs to allow them to talk on Raw more often. The same can't be said for The Ascension, however, who are still as awful on the mic as they were a few months ago. It was a pretty standard tag team match for the most part, but it was a nice win for the newly crowned WWE Tag Team Champions days after winning the twin titles.
King Barrett def. Heath Slater
My thoughts on WWE's complete misuse of Barrett as of late are well-documented, and this match of sorts didn't do anything to reassure me that they're on the right track with him. As long as he's feuding with R-Truth, he'll never be considered a legitimate threat. I guess it's better than having him lose, but when your standards are set that low, you know the booking is bad. And since when is Slater a babyface? I could see him in a lovable loser role, but the crowd didn't have any incentive to cheer for him because I don't recall him ever officially turning.
Naomi def. Summer Rae
All things considered, the Divas division is depressing to watch and this match was no exception. Both Naomi and Summer are tremendously talented, but they've been marginalized so much as of late that no one cares to invest in either of them. Worse yet, this was a pretty terrible match consisting solely of punches, kicks and sloppy spots. I had no idea Summer was supposed to be a babyface (and I still question whether she is) and I'm amazed WWE lost interest in pushing Naomi so quickly. What a waste.
Intercontinental Champion Ryback def. Adam Rose (Non-title)
As you could probably tell, this was nothing more than a glorified squash victory for Ryback, so it was effective in that respect. I still find it immensely disappointing with how they completely dropped the ball in repackaging Rose, but I digress. The most entertaining part of this match was The Miz on commentary, who was an absolute riot. He continues to thrive on the mic and I'd really enjoy a one-on-one feud with just him and Ryback over the Intercontinental title without Big Show in the picture.
This was a more "star-studded" edition of Main Event than usual with the Intercontinental Champion as well as the WWE Tag Team Champions in action, but the matches were ultimately forgettable. The opener was fun but nothing we haven't seen before, Barrett vs. Slater was a waste, the Divas match was awful and the main event was a total squash, so other than Miz's commentary, there isn't much to watch from this week's show. Also, Jimmy Uso continues to be a distraction behind the booth. I don't mind him, but the commentary tends to be much better when it's just Rich Brennan and JBL.
