Curtis Axel def. Cody Rhodes
Did anyone else find it comical that Ryback and Axel were mocking the Rhodes brothers about not winning a match yet they themselves haven't won a meaningful match in ages? Axel and Rhodes worked a good match like only they could, though it should have been given more time. Rhodes losing furthered his story that he can't buy a victory, but I hope to see a new chapter develop soon as the constant losses are starting to wear thin.
R-Truth def. D-Sizzle (Damien Sandow)
Sandow's last three impersonations were bad and they just kept getting worse and worse. D-Sizzle was slightly more comical than the rest, but it could also be considered racist even though I personally wasn't offended by it. It was a throwaway match as expected, but thankfully is wasn't a repeat of their snoozer of a match last week and was instead kept brief. Sandow losing to Truth doesn't even bother me anymore because by this point it has become the norm.
Natalya def. Brie Bella
The action was overshadowed by Brie Bella's story as to whether she'll be fired by Stephanie McMahon on Sunday and Natalya's story that she'll be contending for the NXT Women's Championship at Takeover. The match was fine for what it was, but nothing special. Brie is a good actress whenever she's not screaming and her facial expression after the loss were effective. It was a nice momentum boost for Natalya going into Takeover despite the fact the focus wasn't on her. The "Happy Birthday" chant from the fans in the first few rows toward Natalya were a nice touch as well.
Luke Harper and Erick Rowan def. WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos (Non-title)
These two teams always have enjoyable matches together and this was no different. They kept a consistent pace, had the crowd invested in the action and delivered a fun final few minutes. I also liked the fact that The Wyatt Family scored the clean victory on their own without help from Bray Wyatt at ringside. One can only assume this sets up a tag team title rematch between The Wyatt Family and The Usos at Payback on Sunday and it would be an excellent addition to the card. A real feud has yet to develop between them and I look forward to what they produce now the rivalry looks to be finally underway.
Things could only get better after the train wreck of a show last week, so compared to that, this was a solid edition of Main Event. The opener was nice, Sandow vs. Truth was forgettable yet forgivable, and the subsequent two matches provided good hype for the Payback pay-per-view on Sunday. The Usos vs. The Wyatt Family was a very entertaining contest and improved the show as a whole as a result.
